Error while installing "Smarter Mages"

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm not sure if I'm reporting this correctly, but the smarter mages component fails to install, regardless of what option I choose.

Basically, everything seems to go fine until at some point: this happens:

I have absolutely no idea whats wrong or what to do :suspect:

Yes I'm rather new to this

I do have Big picture (with the standalone ascension) installed and the G3 fixpack.

If you need anything from me please let me know. I really hope I can get this working ;)

Can you post your WEIDU.log? (i.e., the contents of the file WEIDU.log in your BG2 directory.)

Basically something is wrong with the file "ARMY4.CRE" on your install, but since that file isn't on my system I assume some mod has put it there - your log will help me work out which one.

ScuD:

Yep, you're right. I'll wait for your followup on this :suspect:

Okay, I can reproduce this, and I sort-of-understand where it's coming from.

The simplest workaround (until I get round to sorting out compatibility more effectively) is to move the file army4.cre from the override subdirectory of your BG2 directory to a save place, then install SCS II, then move it back again. Crude but effective.

Thanks, that worked, although I got a parse error during the install. (installed with warnings).

The HLA Mages ability component won't install though; it says I need to have installed smarter mages(?); I installed the "enemy mages prebuff only if in sight of the party" component.

Okay, that one I don't understand. Try quitting the install program and running it again.

I got it installed correctly after I did a full uninstall and reinstall, although I still got a parse (syntax?) error on the Smarter Mages/prebuff component. I don't know what problems that may cause. The other components that require smarter mages, also installed correctly this time.

ScuD: are you still there? Any extra news about that Area file from TDD?

DavidW: any reason why that Parse error is happening ("Installed with warnings")?

Another thing, as a workaround for Quest Pack incompatibility. Before installing the Smarter Dragons component simply open HDRAGSIL.CRE from the Override with DLTCEP and just save it there.

The component will be installed without problems then.

At the risk of highjacking this thread;

I'm getting a Installed with warnings message when I install the smarter mages component. The warning is "I tried to swap the order of scripts DW#BARD and HARPER in MERONIA, but I couldn't find both of them".

The first time I installed the component, I received no warning. Due to a odd issue with mages prebuffing when they shouldn't (under option 2) I first reinstalled the component (option R in the installer) and then uninstalled it and installed it again using option 3. The warnings started appearing after the component was uninstalled.

Just thought I'd mention it in case it's a fixable issue.

The warning isn't actually a WEIDU warning: it's something inside SCS itself. And it's harmless; don't worry about it. (Probably some other mod has already rearranged Meronia's scripts.)

Hello David,

have you fixed this with v7?

Greetings Leomar

Probably, but I don't maintain a BP install on a regular basis so I can't check myself. Try and see.
