Does anyone use Ding0 Experience Fixer with SCS/SCS II?

I've never tried SCS or SCS II, but plan to use them both when I play my EasyTutu then BG2 + ToB games. I'm finding it quite difficult to decide exactly what components to use from each mod.

I intend to play on Normal difficulty (mainly for convenience regarding HP, spells etc), but do still want the game to be a bit of a challenge, but certainly not something that I have to spend ages micromanaging and do everything exactly right or I lose a fight. I also don't want to have to use the majority of my spells winning each fight, and then having to rest afterwards.

At the moment I'm leaning towards using the 'Smarter' rather than the 'Improved' components, and seeing how I do. Since Normal difficulty reduces the damage enemies do to 75%, I thought maybe I should also use the creature XP reduction part of Ding0 Experience Fixer to help even it out.

Can anyone tell me roughly what percentage of XP (in both BG and BG2) is gained from quests and how much from enemies? I'm thinking about reducing the XP I get from enemies to 50% (the other alternative is 75%) but am concerned that SCS/SCS II is designed around you getting 100% XP from each enemy. Would getting half as much creature XP as normal mean that my party really would be underpowered (in which case I should go for 75%) or will the quest XP plus 50% enemy XP likely be enough?

Finally, regarding the SCS II Ease-of-use party AI, do you have any plans to add this to SCS, DavidW? I know you told me in a PM that I could use this with Tutu games, but it might be easier for the general public if it were included in the next SCS release.

I've had a few abortive attempts to play the games with the two mods together, but as I usually solo I set XP at either 50% or 25%. This is probably way too punishing for a party.

You might be interested in this thread on the Bioware boards, from someone who appears to be using 75% XP from kills and 25% from quests/traps etc (in BG2). Looks pretty difficult...

I've used DEFJAM with SCSII and a number of other mods. I set kill xp at 75%, spells and traps at 10%, and starting xp at the absolute lowest. I was using a 6 person party, with a Geomantic Sorcerer as my protagonist (10% experience penalty) and the early fights were very challenging and the leveling curve much slower.

It was a lot of fun.

Full hardest install of all SCS features except for the one that gives Liches in random encounters. It really made me look at my lower level spells and see what actually does what (Glitterdust rocks, and interrupting spellcasters is critical). I'll see if I can dig up a weidu log of what I had installed.

I also didn't change my quest path due to difficulty levels. I had Aerie, Kivan, Yoshimo/Imoen, Nalia, Auren for party members. The spirit trolls were nasty, as were Yuanti Mages. The hardest fights were against multiple Yuanti mages when resucing Haer'dalis. I didn't finish the game, as I moved houses in the midst of it and haven't had time to get back to it, what with other things coming up.

does it?

in BG1, 50% should be enough, as for BG2 - I don't know.

Why not use the Stage Based XP Cap component (Zyraen's Miscellaneous Mods) instead? IMHO it is better because with Ding0 Experience Fixer it's rather hard to find the "correct" level of experience decrease - it just depends on too many things. With Stage Based XP Cap you can be sure that your party won't be too experienced when going to Spellhold, or that your party won't get any HLA's before ToB. And it works fine whether you play with solo character or with full party.

Caedwyr, if you can post your weidu log that'd be great.

Bearwere, if you start the game configuration and mouse over the various difficulty options, it tells you what each does. I'll probably give BG1 a try with 50% monster XP and see how it goes. I'll be using mods like BG1NPC, BG UB (and for BG2 it'll be Quest Pack, BG2 UB) and so on, so I'll hopefully get enough extra XP from these mods to make sure my part is tough when it needs to be tough.

AbraM, I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm looking for a solution that'll do for both BG1 and 2. But maybe I'll try it out for BG2, depending on how things go with BG1.

I'd started out with having the hardest buffing options, but had run into a bug which has since been fixed that caused the enemies to do a complete rebuff whenever they left the party's sight.

im using the xp mod with scs2 and parts of tactics.. its currently set to 75% kills, 25% traps/spells and 75% quests.. im hoping i haven't shot myself in the foot here, i might put quests back to 100 and leave traps and kills as they are.. ive only just got out of iren's dungeon so i cant comment on any side affects just yet.

i used scs1 with tutu and xp mod all the way through setting 75% to kills only and left the rest as is.. i think i hit the xp cap right at the start of chapter 7, and this was after doing everything, i usually hit it back in chapter 5, was fun times and the only time i wish i hadn't of lowered the xp was in 4th level of the naskel mines where i faced off against two kobold shamans.. fun but hard.

still i now worry about tactics content and accession, i hope ill get enough xp.. i have quest mods and such installed that should add extra xp to the game anyway so hopefully it will all balance out..

Kai, what components did you install for SCS1 and what difficulty were you playing on?

Hey, could you keep us posted on your SCS2 progress (maybe also letting us know the components and difficulty level you're using for BG2)? Post in this thread if you like. Oh, and how much XP did you start BG2 with?

starting xp for bg2 was default however since i was playing it as a straight one game playthrough (candlekeep to throne of bhaal) i used shadowkeeper to keep all the stats (such as the using the int tomes on imoen and the 2 wis tomes on jaheria) and exp for all the npcs i took through bg1, so the starting xp and levels were slightly higher then default because i removed the xp cap when i hit it in chapter 7, so starting exp in bg2 was like so:

me: 198216

imoen (dualed to a mage at level 7, then used shadow keeper to change her mage kit into a wild mage, MUCH FUN :) . exp: 141204

minsc: 195672

jaheira: 187857

i always play with a full party and in bg1npc project i tried to switch in and out npcs to get most content, ill try and keep you updated on my progress through bg2, but im undecided as to weather or not i should have quest xp reduced to 75% as well.. i don't want to be over powered but at the same time i don't want to be underpowered.

what do you guys think? will there be enough xp in the game if i set xp to kills 75% traps/spells 25% and quests 75% ? keep in mind i have quest mods and the like so hopefully ill be ok.. but im still not sure on quest at 75%..

Bearwere, if you start the game configuration and mouse over the various difficulty options, it tells you what each does.

wow, I never really noticed the "3/4" thing. Must be because I'm playing on core always.

I think "Increase difficulty of level-dependent monster groupings" should be used with caution especially with xp fixer - things may get really tough.

Thanks, Kai and Bearwere.

Does anyone know if you can use SCS II Smarter Mages and Smarter Priests for Tutu? I fancy trying out the 'Option 2' versions (SCS1 only has the 'Option 1' version).
