Lovetalk 3: All Action, No Talk

OK, something fun to play with. My wife and I were watching The Big Country (good movieClassic Western, Gregory Peck and a whole slew of other good folks) and was reminded of how many scenes really ran with no talk at all. Now, the i.e. engine has cutscenes, which can illustrate some things; you could create a movie and import it, etc. And, of course, the general rule of thumb for years has been "avoid text painting and use dialog, letting the player's imagination fill it in". But, flirts have gained a good deal of popularity, and in many mods the "text painting" approach has made action dialogs more acceptable. For younger players, this idea may be pretty new. For all of us who played Zelda and Hitchhiker's Guide as a text adventure, this idea is how we really began the whole gaming thing, with interactive text adventures which allow you to do everything by action - almost no dialog. I suspect there are still folks who play them - I just googled "interactive fiction" and came up with some folks who seem to think the genre is alive and well (and if that is true, then noone should *ever* worry about the death of i.e. modding, because that stuff is way older!)

 

So, let's try a lovetalk that has absolutely no talking, is PG-13, attempts to avoid forcing PC to take actions she doesn't want to do, and has a dash of romance. The early stages of a relationship is a good place tp try this out. Basically, a physical "flirt" that is big enough, varied enough, and fun enough to stand as an unspoken dialog.

As always, feedback and suggestions are appreciated. I am hoping for feedback that identifies other options to cover more roleplay options. The assumption is that since the PC (ok, her player, who could be male or female, but hey, this is roleplaying, remember) can turn on and off the lovetalks via PID, she wants to have the interaction. The question is, are enough types of romance wishes covered, or are there pathways that could be improved?

Starting with IF ~~ c-aranbg2rom3.beside you lost the parantheses. I know what you are trying to do here, but I am not sure a large dialgue all composed of actions works as a LT. I'd call it an Aran intiated flirt :D

I like it. It is definitely something different. The only problem I see is that you don't seem to have responses for c-aranbg2rom3.space and c-aranbg2rom3.blowkiss.

I think it's a great idea! It shows a sort of intimacy, I think. They can just enjoy each other's company, without having to talk about anything in particular. And the signals they use show a lot about the characters and their understanding of each other.

 

Just the option of: pointing at his pack, and then at him and THEN forward. That's a lot of effort when nothing's really stopping the PC from saying: 'Just keep walking, Aran'. Maybe just cut it to: You raising your eyebrows adn point towards your destination? Long action chains seem fine when the PC's doing something (eg. You lean forward as if to kiss him, but as he leans forward you duck under his embrace and cross your arms, wagging one finger at him and gesturing for him to walk on ahead), but that chain seems a little tedious.

 

I love some of these options, though. He sounds like a lot of fun. Heh heh. Keep up the excellent work!!

I really appreciate the comments! The whole "post all the code" thing is designed to get feedback and make adjustments.

 

Doing a find/replace (I love notepad++) for the typos.

 

lots of 'his' and 'back' in this part seems awkward. Perhaps, "..he resets his pack, his arching back bringing you both very close together." (It seems clear that he would be putting his pack on his back without having to say it exactly perhaps.)
and the "grin a wide grin" - Good calls, too - rereading it, it loses all power when it gets tangled up with extra clauses. Changing those puppies - I will post up changes this weekend, with a few other things underway ???
