-JR- Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 In Nashkel, there is a gravestone marked "Ioin Gallchobhair," a name that just happens to be a name held by a seemingly random bandit in the area to the northeast of the Carnival and northwest of Durlag's tower. Does anyone know the story on this?
Luridel Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 No, but there's another Gallchobhair in BG2 in the sewers under the temple district. It might be a Bioware inside joke or reference to a person, but I don't know for sure.
Western Paladin Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The name seems to be roughly equivalent to Gallagher. Maybe someone at BioWare had that last name / was from that clan, and it's a reference to that.
CoM_Solaufein Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Also some of the developers were known to use their own NPCs from their PnP days I recall reading about many years ago. So this may be one of them. Could be one of Ray's or Greg's NPC.
-JR- Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 No, but there's another Gallchobhair in BG2 in the sewers under the temple district. Aha, that's why it sounded so familiar! Also some of the developers were known to use their own NPCs from their PnP days I recall reading about many years ago. Aye, it was fun reading about the original Sarevok, originally a PC I believe. It would make sense that it would be named after one of them, seeing as how many of the joke-graves in that cemetary have real-world sounding names. I wonder if Sendai was also one of these sort of characters, since an agressive human(?) female warrior in Baldur's Gate I shares the name of the more notable holder.
Yovaneth Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Just FYI: it's a real Irish name and is pronounced (almost like) 'gal-CO-var'. It's difficult to explain about the 'h' following the 'b' - it is sounded but only just. -Y- (from the Emerald Isle).
