Issues with pnp protection items

Ok, so... this seems to be a bigger mess than I'd originally thought. Version 13 installed with BGT... not sure if this issue carried over into version 14 or if this was caught. Not only are cloaks and amulets of protection selling for 1 gp in stores, I'm finding two different versions of the protection items scattered throughout the game, which behave differently. Some of them seem to be c!pp11.itm (Ring of Protection +1) while others are ring06.itm (also Ring of Protection +1), same with cloaks, C!pp8.itm (Cloak of Protection +1) and clck01.itm both are showing up ingame; haven't run across both versions of amulets yet so can't compare those

 

The issue is that the C! versions do not behave properly; the item ability that creates a version you can wear with magic armor creates items which grant both extra AC and +1 to saves even with PnP style Protections component installed. The ring06.itm/clck01.itm behave properly, with the versions wearable with magic armor granting only +1 to saves and not AC.

Ok... figured out that the C! versions are the no charge/stackable with magic armor versions that the original items are supposed to create with PnP rules installed. Still doesn't explain why shops are selling these versions or why NPCs are dropping these, rather than the CLCK01 or Ring006 versions

So... there are apparently 3 versions, not just 2, of each cloak/amulet/ring of protection; aside from the base items there are CDPPRING etc items as well as C!PPRING versions, and I'm wondering if this is the reason why things are getting screwed up. Can someone confirm that the existance of the CD and C! versions is due to there being a 'PnP rules' option as well as 'everything stacks' option for this component, and why they're both in my install when I've selected 'PnP rules' option of this component?

 

None of this explains why they're ending up sold in shops in the first place; shops should sell the base item versions, not C! or CD versions, seems to me that would fix the 'on sale for 1 gp' problem.

This component (PnP protection items) still seems to be buggy in version 16... the cdpp versions (without ac bonus) work as intended, but the c!pp version of the items with both ac benefits and saving throw benefits can be worn together with magic armor even though the selected component is PnP rules, i.e. magic armor and protection item bonus not stacking.

Manually (via NI) appended itemexcl.2da with the relevent entries from cdpnp.2da, and it works properly now. I did not receive any error messages during the installation process; I'm curious if anyone else with the same option installed had issues.

 

One other possibility obviously is a mod installed after BG2Tweaks (not many since it comes late in the install order) went and borked up a properly appended itemexcl.2da; going to check this possibility.

 

[edit] Changelog shows no mods altered itemexcl.2da after BG2Tweaks other than generalized biffing, so I'm wondering if the relevant block in setup-bg2_tweaks.tp2 needs to be looked at.

Maybe someone else can answer why this component has been coded so that swapping back from the 'can't use with magic armor' (cd) version to standard (c!)version results in a 1gp version of the item (i.e. no charges)? Is it because reverting back to the original version results in 'de-Identifying' the item?

These issues still persist through multiple installations on both bg2 and EE engines. Has anyone been able to get the pnp protection component working correctly in their game in the past few years? It appears that itmexcl.2da simply is not being properly patched to include the new (c!) versions of the items that grant both bonus to save and AC.

 

Either that or the component is meant to revert the 'bonus to save only' versions back to vanilla versions when their 'charge' is used... problem is they're not, they get swapped out for the c! versions which, since they're not on itmexcl.2da, can be worn on top of magic armor, effectively making them function identical to the 'no restrictions' versions.

Upon further examination in NI, it appears that some of the cd (no AC bonus) version items DO revert back to the vanilla versions (specifically, Koveras's Ring of Protection +1 and the Improved Cloak of Protection) which means those are fine, but the rest revert from cd versions to c! versions and are problematic (because of the c! versions not being on itemexcl.2da). Odd; it's almost as if someone started converting them from one method to the other but didn't finish.
