Bugs/Issues & Hotfixes for SR V3

1) For some reason, if you do not choose the option to eliminate unselectable spells from the spell selection screen, the spell "dimension door" is no longer selectable.
If you don't install that component there's not enough room for all 5th lvl spells and SR doesn't restore DD in favour of keeping Sunfire selectable.

2) Regardless of the "eliminating now unselectable spells" component, if you try to start the game as a wild mage, once you get to "level 5 spells" on the spell selection screen it will not let you choose your last number 5 spell, claiming that you have to choose one from your "spell school"
;)

I'm having this bug too and it's easy to reproduce.

Just start a new TOB game (not SOA) and create a Wild Mage. Once you get to the spell selection screen for level 5 spells, the bug manifests. By the way, I was able to bypass it by choosing the "Pick Spells For Me" option.

Ohhh...found it! For some reason the removed Spell Shield spell is considered a Wild Magic spell, and the game seems to force you taking at least one spell of your specialist shool per lvl if available.

I'll try to fix it asap and post an hotfix.

Hotfix Update

Spells Usability: most Conjurations spells were not available to Invokers, even if they could read the scrolls. Invokers can now learn all Conjuration spells. Necromancers couldn't read Deafness scroll. Few instances of spells with multiple forbidden schools have been eliminated, unlike vanilla every SR spell belongs to a single school, to which corrisponds only one forbidden school.

Reflected Image: being hit under the effect of RI was causing Cowled Wizards to appear. The secondary spell is not flagged as a wizard spell anymore to prevent this.

Remove Magic: its scroll doesn't require a target anymore, it can be cast at any point as it should.

Dimension Door: spell and scroll were working in different ways, now they both require line of sight. Note: it seems spells cast via scrolls can't work without LOS.

Spell Shield: the disabled Spell Shield spell was considered a Wild Magic spell, and the game seems to force you taking at least one spell of your specialist shool per lvl if available (at character creation). This was preventing Wild Mages from freely chosing their last 5th lvl spell and block them unless the "Pick Spells For Me" option was used.

Summon Djinni/Efreeti: genies no longer turn hostile if harmed.

Hmm, iirc the spell just fizzles when cast outside LOS right?

Also i think it was a very useful spell as it was. I see the gamebreaking potential but there are other gamebreaking things which are in the game and not regarded as bugs like failing to steal from a Shadow Thief or giving certain dialogue options throughout the game which all result in instakill. And you have really to try to break the game with DD.

The best use now i can think of is to escape unescapeable AoE spells, which shouldn't really be necessary in the first case. [Or otoh player AoEs could follow enemies around :p ]

Edit: Oh and there was also the thing with Elemental's immunity to Web-effects. I'm not sure if you fixed that already. ;)

I don't think the hotfixes are working for me. I have ToB Patch, G3fixpack, sr v3, and scsii v19 on a fresh install.

I downloaded the hotfix, unzipped them and reinstalled sr v3, but fresh out of the opening dungeon, Irenicus pelts me with flame arrows. My previous install had it working just fine (I reinstalled my entire game when I upgraded from scsii v15 to scsii v19).

Maybe I'm just not doing it correctly or something, but idk... upgrading scs 15 to scs 19 introduces tobex to the mix so perhaps that may have something to do with it... or maybe it is just me doing something wrong.

Well this is most certainly a side effect of TOBEX, because I disabled tobex from my scsii install and that was fixed up, but the hotfix still doesn't seem to be working.

Yes, this is indeed caused by ToBEx, but I thinnk they fixed it (see here).

Regarding Irenicus's FA fix not working anymore after installing the hotfixes, it seem strange, everything seems fine on my instaal and I don't know how ToBEx could clash with it. I'd try to test it myself if I can, but I don't have a save for it, aka I'd have to play the entire dungeon on a new install. Anyway, I'll look into it a little and let you know.

Just downloaded the most recent hotfix (20110731), extracted the files into my BGII directory, and ran a reinstall of SR. However, I got a warning during the "Update Spellbooks..." component:

It's this last "EVALUATE_BUFFER" warning that then appears during almost all of the other mod reinstalls afterward, and causes a lot of "INSTALLED WITH WARNING" messages. Also, my SETUP-SPELL_REV.DEBUG file grew to over 350 MB as it filled with these warnings!

Here is another output snippet from the end of the DEBUG file to show the summary:

Hopefully it's just some minor issue...apologies if it isn't the hotfix's fault. However, the warning first appeared at the new hotfix component, and it was consistent later through the installation.

My overall BGII installation appears to be okay, although it's tough to say for sure without playing to the end. Just starting Chapter 3 in a new run and I ran a quick test through a few battles to see if spells still worked, and things seemed okay. Let me know if any more information/testing is needed!

Oh, and just as an aside: I installed this hotfix because the fixes appeared to be very important ones, but my original problem was actually with some strange Project Image behaviour (which isn't mentioned in the new versions of SR). Basically, my project images seem to get a script assigned to them, and I can't cue commands without them being lost. The original issue appeared as follows: I had Nalia use a project image and the first spell from the image worked, but when I cue'd up a second one (Remove Magic) and focused on other parts of the battle I found the image standing around and the spell never got cast. I did some testing after the battle and confirmed that I couldn't even direct the image to walk across the room without it stopping after the first few steps (probably at the end of the round) and then doing nothing. Spells were similarly getting cancelled (or not) intermittently, depending on my timing. From my preliminary investigations, this issue seems more likely to be SCSII related than SR, but I thought I would start with getting the most current release of SR, since this is my first time playing with the new Project Image spell (never actually used it much before as it was way too OP). I was going to also test with turning Party AI off, but I need it for other mods, and I don't want to have to be remembering to toggle it back and forth whenever I cast the spell.

Ardanis may know about this more than me but if I have to guess it could be the new fix doesn't work if you have an old weidu exe. I'd attach here the most recent exe but the forum isn't letting me do it. :) Judging by your other report I guess you have a recent version of SCS, am I wrong? If yes copy its setup-scsII.exe file (any other recent weidu exe would be fine), rename it setup-spell_rev.exe, and overwrite the old one shipped with SR. Then run the setup again and let me know if it works.

If I'm not wrong this is caused by SCS, I seem to recall this being addressed somewhere within its forums. SR doens't assign any script to illusionary clones created by PI or Simulacrum, the only two mods I know of that do something like that are Quest Pack and SCS.

If I'm not wrong, it thinks so because there's a %length% varaible set elsewhere and WeiDU assumes we might have wanted to evaluate the matching string.

That said, do you have any problem with this component working as intended, i.e. NPC spellbooks not updated?

I already updated to the most recent weidu (version 229) when I did my original installation, so that wouldn't be the problem. I do have a recent version of SCSII (v19), so that would have updated it as well, but I downloaded the newest one from Weimer and put it in my BGII folder as setup-latest.exe many weeks ago. Here's another extract from the monster spell_rev debug file that has the version number of it listed:

Yeah, I figured it was SCSII. I do have the Quest Pack installed as well, but I stayed away from any AI components in it, since I was using SCSII. Strangely, I did some more testing recently and this time the image functioned fine. Though this time there weren't any enemies about, or in the middle of a battle, so that may be the difference. I'll have to test further.

No problem with the "NPC Spellbooks" component that I can see, although I haven't run into any new NPCs since the hotfix (I already met most of them, so their spellbooks would be fixed). Hmm...maybe I'll track down Haer'dalis and throw him in the party for a spell...I've got a spare spot ready for Immy that he could fill for a while.

The most annoying thing about the error was that it made the reinstall take a really looooooong time. SCSII is very large and always takes a while, but with all the warnings and writing to the debug file because of the EVALUATE_BUFFER, it went for an hour and a half this time (no exaggeration). If you want me to test another reinstall, I may have to make sure I've got an hour to spare, in case it happens again. :D

Thanks for the quick replies!
