zeus-online
Hi, i recently installed the BG2 fixpack and it causes a game ending bug.The bug occurs after roughly 1 day of game time in waukeens promenade and it crashes the game. I have narrowed the bug down to being contained within the core features of the mod.I made a completely clean patched install of Baldurs gate 2: Shadows of amn to ensure that the problem was this particular mod.I am new to this forum, so i apologize in advance if i have posted in the wrong forum. Jarno Mikkola
Just to narrow down a few things; 1) What operation system do you use ? And where did you install the game to ? 2) Start the game, load a save and go to the game options screen and say what the v2yyyyyy it says itself to be? 3) Go to the game install directory and copy, open up the file called weidu.log with Notepad and copy paste the text to a post... 4) What game options do you use ? The easiest way to show this is to open up the baldur.ini file with Notepad and copy paste the files content to a post. 5) Now then, do you know what the trigger of the crash is ? Does it happen when you move on the area to a specific space, or during the area "introduction cinematic", or things like that ? Link to comment
jastey
Your error log would be helpful, too. To enable the error-log, you'd have to edit the baldur.ini in the section "[Program Options]" with the following: Logging On=1 Then you reproduce the crash. In the game folder should be a file named "baldur.err" now, please post the content here. Link to comment

Jarno Mikkola
I installed it on my SSD drive because it fails to play if i install it on my storage drive. The problem is that the game cannot handle the sheer size of the storage drive. Erhm, it might warn you that the drive might not have enough space, but it will allow you to install despite that, as it's a warning, not a definite blockage, as the program knows that it was outdated when it was made. But that's not the real problem, I would actually assume that the problem is not the sound files but added creature that breaks the game, there are several reasons why it can do it. But this is a little trickier to gather clues with as it's a plain BG2 and not ToB, and so I can't help much. Link to comment

I installed it on my storage drive initially, and the game crashed immediately after i launch it, claiming that i didn't have the amount of space required for running the game. The problem wasn't installing it, the problem was running the program afterwards. Regardless, this isn't what is causing my current problem, since it is currently installed on my 120gb SSD drive. I have completed the game while it was installed on that drive, so the core SoA installation is not an issue either, neither is the latest official patch as that was the one i was using at the time. I don't know what creature the BG2Fixpack adds? I've read through all the information i could find regarding what the fixpack adds, and i cannot find any event relating to Waukeen's promenade specifically. The bug triggers even if i am soloing. As i previously said, i have pretty much narrowed it down to the core features of the BG2Fixpack. I suspect that it adds an event in waukeen's promenade that occurs after roughly 1 day of game time and that there is a problem with this event. Since i don't play with throne of bhaal my suspicion is that the bg2fixpack utilizes something from ToB for this event. Link to comment

Ahh, well in this case you just have to edit the CacheSize= number, which is the megabyte amount the game is allowed to use, it can be from 300 to 2000 in normal games. Yours is 3000, which by the way, the game will never use more than 2000. It's in the games own bgmain.exe itself, if what I was told is correct. And/or copy a few large files so that the storage capability doesn't partition below zero(as in, go over) in the old way of calculating it when the games is started. I've read through all the information i could find regarding what the fixpack adds, and i cannot find any event relating to Waukeen's promenade specifically. The bug triggers even if i am soloing. The thing is, it's likely to be a character that is to be in the area during a set time, and it doesn't matter where your characters or character is at, as it's appearance kills the v2.0.23037 game: CVisibilityMap::AddCharacter : ( 680, 342 ) #:16843009 R:14 Link to comment

I can "dodge" the crash and play in every other area of the game, but if i at any point after roughly 1 day of game time return to waukeens promenade, it crashes. At first i thought the bug was related to resting in waukeen's promenade as that was how i initially encountered the bug, so i simply chose to rest elsewhere....but eventually a quest drove me back to waukeens and the game crashed. You could download NearInfinity, open AR0700.ARE (backup it somewhere, if it isn't biffed), and delete actors one by one (or groups of actors), save in override, test, until you find who does it. Sergio
Given the fact that bg2 fixpack doesn't give this bug to any of the ten thousand people still playing original bg2, and that you are having a bug plaguing your game, I can assure you that if you don't find what is really causing it, you are going to have to spend more time trying to fix your game then playing it, given the fact that what you are experiencing is just an odd thing that could perpetuate indirectly via strange bugs through all your gameMy suggestion is to fix the problem or to play without the fixpack. Your take. Link to comment

Of course i uninstalled it when i decided not to fix the bug. Link to comment
Sergio
it's not the mod who triggers it, but your bg.That's different. Or fixpack, with such a bug, would have never reached version 11 Link to comment

Or fixpack, with such a bug, would have never reached version 11 It could be that not all the features have been tested on the SoA BG2, just ToB one... but also zeus-online could have a corrupted his/her game by installing the game to already existing folder that contained the file that bug producing file. And the unwillingness to find out what actually causes the bug is.. hmm. Link to comment
ericp07
My guess is that the optimal solution is to install the full SoA/ToB game, even if you will never play the ToB portion, then install all BG2 Fixpack components except for SHFLM (and optionally installing the Super Secret Component, if that's still relevant). Make sure the cache in BGConfig isn't set higher than 2048, and double-check that the frame rate is correct for your country. I don't recall ever having seen an in-game error directly related to Fixpack in over seven years of playing and testing under Mac OS X (Tiger and Mavericks), and I haven't had any issues with it so far under Windows 7 Ultimate.
