Brage's Redemption - Brage NPC Mod for BG1

Recommended Posts

Do the dependencies with each NPC listed in the .INI (AjantisBG1, AjantisBG2, Finch) are also related with the crossmod component or the main component?

I do believe it is only the crossmod component. It could be that EndlessBG1 would be the only mod that really needs to be installed before the main component.

The install order you chose is perfect, though.

I didn't know there were also synergies with few NPCs like Finch for example!

I have her in my playthrough and the banters about the Nashkel library theme kind of wrote themself.

Really enjoying Brage so far. I notice some things on my install :

1 - I play in english and installed Brage in english, but he doesn't have any voice sounds. I read in the readme he should have one of the HoW voiceset. I don't know what could have gone wrong on my install.

2 -

Spoiler

Brage's sword recovered from Borda is a unique sword +1 with unique name and description. But when Brage join after he received his sword, he's equipped with a generic sword +1. It's normally not a big deal, but there is a component from SCS that replace all generic +1 weapons with non magical fined one, affected by the Iron Crisis. So Brage in my game ended up with a sword that broke soon after. Kinda ironic for him of course ! It would be nice if Brage joined the party with his unique sword (unique weapons are not affected by the SCS component).

3 - I had some troubles when trying to prove Brage innocent.

Spoiler

After having Nalin examined the cursed sword, Laryssa didn't show up. In my last two runs, she only appeared after I dealed with Borda to praise my investigations. Problem is roleplay wise, I don't have a good reason to confront Borda if Laryssa doesn't told me about the merchant. Did I forget to do something so she appear to give my some advice ?

Also, I really like Acifer's portrait for Brage, but I think it is a little different style wise from other portraits in the game. For my personal use, I did some alterations with an AI image enhancer, in order to have a portrait better matching the other game portraits.

I will not post it anywhere without your or Acifer's permission, but if you are interested in seeing it or maybe use it as an alternate just tell me and I will send it to you.

Here is my weidu.log (I know I shouldn't have installed BG1 NPC project before BGQE) :

@Trouveur80 no soundset is weird. It worked so far as far as I know. They are in wav format, maybe you can copy them into the override manually to make it work. I have no idea why they wouldn't have been copied directly.

Brage's Sword and SCS: interesting. There is no real reason not to give him the special one, but there was also no real reason I could think of to give it to him, so I went with a generic one.

One could argue that giving him a unique one undermines the purpose of the SCS component. 🤔

Laryssa not showing up at all seems to be a bug introduced when I tried to fix her showing up twice. Her appearance is a crucial quest element for proving Brage's guilt soon (before the Bandit Camp).

Do you still have a savegame from after showing Nalin the cursed sword when she is supposed to show you could send me?

I'm glad you have a portrait variant you like, but I'm good, I like the original. If @Acifer is ok with you posting the edited version then I'd have no problem with you posting it here, but I am not the one to give permission.

I will not post it anywhere without your or Acifer's permission, but if you are interested in seeing it or maybe use it as an alternate just tell me and I will send it to you.

To be honest - no. You are always free to modify another person's artwork using AI as you feel is right - which is fine for your own personal and private use. But not to then redistribute it any further.

Thank you for the tip about the sound files, I will try it. 🙂

About Brage's sword, SCS component is meant to reduce the number of magical weapon in the world. But from my understanding, Brage specifically ordered a magical sword in order to have one immune to the Iron Crisis. So I think this sword should stay magical, unless of course you want to add a plot twist with Brage ordering and expecting a magical sword, only to find out it was a fraud and a breakable one. Could lead to another interesting Brage's banter by the way. ^^

This subject also have some gameplay implication : SCS replace all greatsword +1 with fined one, so the first non breakable greatsword is Spider's Bane (not counting the cursed berserker +3 of course), available only in chapter 4. That means than without his magic sword, Brage would need to carry many spare swords. ^^

About Laryssa I will check my savegames. 🙂

I did a fresh install with only DLC Merger and Brage Redemption 8.3 installed, here is the savegame just after showing the sword to Nalin and reporting back to Oublek https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hbaks3L_GrMFMq0887Wn0QfytIyKIZvh/view?usp=drive_link

So I tried it on a fresh install with only DLC Merger and Brage installed (English chosen for mods and game), and still no sounds from Brage. The wave files are correctly in the Override folder.

Brage's redemption updates to v9.0, with completed German translation by Shai Hulud!

v9.0 also comes with a new component that gives Brage his unique two-handed sowrd +1 upon joining, and other optimizations.

Changelog:

- German version completed, by Shai Hulud, proofread by jastey.
- New component: "Give Brage unique Two-Handed Sword +1" (for BG1 part only).
- Brage's comment on being arrested should fire not too early.
- "Brage's Sword": updated to version in bgqe 26.1 (Laryssa should spawn after showing the sword to Nalin if Borda is not dead, too.)
- Crossmod with Thanalntyr's Item Upgrade mod is now independent on install order.
- Install order syntax was nerfed in the .ini to lift restrictions for the main component. Make sure to install the crossmod component after all other relevant mods according to readme.
- the file c#brage0.cre will no longer clatter the override folder.
- small text correction.
