Duplicated NPC

Hello first of all apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forums I am kinda new to them and to modding (last time I modded BGTutu was the be all and end all).

Anyhow I wanted to go through the old saga again before playing BG3. I moded the game using EE mod setup tools (used the 2023 collection with few tweeks).

Been playing for a while and from time to time some mod added npc are duplicated.

First it was silly

But now its getting kinda annoying

Is there any "easy" way to fix this

Unfortunately, the EE Setup Tool is a hostile fork of the former BWS automated install tool, the maintainer made it to promote their own mod(s), including unauthorized, changed mod versions and flat out stolen content (like "Gorion's Dream" mod I see on your list). Even the "EET Fix" is not fixes but contains tweaks of unknown content.

State of the art would be Project Infinity, it's a bit more complicated to use because you need to set the install order, but at least you know which mods it installs.

The bug is hilarious though, I have no idea what would cause this. Did you try to start a new game to see whether it's a weird glitch in your current save?

Ye it's not tied to the current save. I even tried to reinstall with "official" recommendations  and it still happens.

Do the characters spawn while you are standing there, like infinite if you don't go away or is the screenshots what you find when you enter the area?

Only thing I could think of is to install the Stutter Debug Tool and see whether you can identify a script that runs wild. (Note: the tool can break cutscenes, so deinstall it again if you want to continue the game).

Did you have a look at the areas with Near Infinity maybe to see whether you spot anything obvious?

I think it goes for both; as in already spawned when I enter the map ("named" npc only for now) and also spawning after rest or going out of sigth (gnoll stronghold was more like a diablo game then a dnd one :D )

Just first time playing around with it. Posted the findings in the post above. In short I think the spawn script is repeated multiple times

This looks like the mods were installed several times.

This might happen if you do not properly deinstall the mods before reinstalling them, e.g. by replacing the mod folder of an installed mod with a newly extracted mod folder, erasing the deinstall backup info that was in it. Or starting the same installer exe several times so they run all at the same time.

This might happen if you do not properly deinstall the mods before reinstalling them, e.g. by replacing the mod folder of an installed mod with a newly extracted mod folder, erasing the deinstall backup info that was in it. Or starting the same installer exe several times so they run all at the same time.

 

Installation was left totally to the ee mod setup tool. Any suggestion how to salvage it (if it's even possible)

With those duplicated blocks, I think there's something pretty obscure going on - setting variables is not an instant action. I've run into this in dialogue; if you set a variable and then test for it within the next few states, that test will use the old value of the variable. Unless you put a flag on that dialogue action so it's forced to run immediately.

In this case, the offending blocks have Continue() in them so they run one after another in the same pass through the script. Without that Continue(), you wouldn't come back until the next pass through the script, and the "don't do this again" variable would be properly set so none of the blocks would run again no matter how many copies were there. As happens with Imanel and the wolves; those also have duplicated blocks, but they didn't multi-spawn because they didn't have that Continue().

I recognize Imanel and the wolves there, from the BG1 NPC Project. Which isn't in the log you provided, so something funky is going on. There's a .baf with that script block in it:

Which ... yeah, there's no way that gets copied multiple times in one pass. And you couldn't install it multiple times manually without messing with things, because of WeiDU's logging system. It definitely looks like the tool is somehow installing some mods repeatedly without logging them.

I would point out that there's 7 content mods after SCS in that log. Call it prejudice, but that's 7 more than the amount there should be.

BTW, EET Mod Messup installs BG1 NPC prior to EET (which is still allowed, due to Garrick - Tales of a Troubadour). Note that the WeiDU-BGEE.log wasn't shared. That partially explains the funkiness.

OMG, what a mixture of actually good mods with utter crap. just my opinion pffffffff.......

Installing mods after SCS (especially quest and npc mods) is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

You can actually edit areas in your save file using Near Infinity and remove duplicated actors but it is a loooong and tedious process, not worth it really.
