Meira
The mod features not only romance and friendship tracks for the protagonist, but also a romance track for a second PC in a multiplayer game (Player 2). This feature is also exploitable in a single player game if you want enjoy two concurrent romances without cheating. Although the following FAQ might make the Player 2 romance seem unnecessarily complicated, it is not so in practice! All you have to do is to create another PC in the party slot 2 and go. Also single players can start a multiplayer game, create two characters, begin play and save the game, copy that save game into their single player savegame folder, load it in a single player game and play a normal single player game with the two PCs. Q. What's the difference between the protagonist and another PC? Or the difference between PC and NPC? A. The protagonist is your main character, the Bhaalspawn and the only character you create in the single player game mode. By another PC (player character), I mean additional character(s) that you can create for your party in the multiplayer gaming mode. NPCs (non-player character) on the other hand include the various characters that you can meet during the game and who can join your party. Amber is one of these NPCs. While you can control their actions in battle and their inventories, they talk and banter on their own with other characters. You don't get to choose their dialogue options in those conversations. Q. So, I have to create another PC in the party slot 2. What if I change the party formation during the game? A. While the non-protagonist PC must be in the party slot 2 for Amber to romance him, the party formation (that you change by dragging the character portrait) during gameplay does not matter. The actual character order can be viewed in the character arbitration screen (multiplayer mode) or in the save/load game screens (look at the order of the small portraits). If you have created the other PC in slot 2, that's not going to change unless you kick him/her out of the party and take him back. You should protect him from being turned into stone or getting imprisoned, though (as these will remove him from the party). Q. What happens if Amber is romancing Player 2 and I kick him out of the party. Will she continue romancing, say, Korgan? A. If the character in slot 2 is no longer a PC, the romance will stop. Amber won't romance Bio-NPCs or those modded NPCs that her script recognises (see the Compatibility thread for more info). If the PC is returned to the second character slot, the romance will continue. (This can be accomplished by dismissing all characters but the protagonist from the party and taking them back in the correct order.) Q. I want Amber to romance Player 2. How can I make sure that Amber will not try to start a romance with my protagonist? A. You have two options. You can make sure that the protagonist is not male, or that either his charisma or his intelligence is below 12. Alternatively, you can choose a very clearly phrased dialogue option in the end of Amber's joining dialogue that introduces her to your faithful sidekick. Q. Does that Player 2 have the same requirements for the romance as the Protagonist? A. Yes the Player 2 has to be a male with both intelligence and charisma of 12 or higher. Q. Will the be ToB content for the Player 2 romance? A. Yes. Any further questions regarding the Player 2 romance option may be submitted to this thread. Kitana
Alright, question. Is Player 2 considered to also be a Bhaalspawn? Is the romance for Player 2 written as if Player 2 was also a Bhaalspawn? Quote Link to comment
Grim Squeaker
Alright, question. Is Player 2 considered to also be a Bhaalspawn? Is the romance for Player 2 written as if Player 2 was also a Bhaalspawn? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unless something has radically changed since I last looked at it, no. In fact that's the major difference between the Player 1 and Player 2 romances. Quote Link to comment
Darios
Alright, question. Is Player 2 considered to also be a Bhaalspawn? Is the romance for Player 2 written as if Player 2 was also a Bhaalspawn? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As Grim already pointed out, the answer is no. Pretty much the only assumption we make of Player 2 is that he is not a Bhaalspawn (and that he is travelling with the protagonist of his own volition). Talks that dealt with the protagonist being a Bhaalspawn in the Player 1 romance have been replaced with all new talks for Player 2. Quote Link to comment
Bohemund
This is a very neat idea for sure I certainly look forward to playing this mod. Quote Link to comment
Guest Trojans Horse
Crap, I hope this thread isn't dead... but here goes. During the Player 2 romance, will Amber still be abducted by Bodhi? I hope this question was not answered elsewhere and I eagerly await a reply. This mod sounds very interesting and I'd love to have a decent thief in my party... Quote Link to comment
berelinde
If Amber is romancing Player 2, I'm guessing that the answer to that question is "no." Bodhi gets her kicks torturing the Bhaalspawn. This means abducting her committed partner. Player 2 isn't a Bhaalspawn, so Bodhi would gain nothing by kidnapping Amber. I would imagine, though, that if Amber were romancing player 1, and the relationship were sufficiently advanced, the abduction would happen normally. Quote Link to comment
Darios
As Berelinde said, Amber will only get abducted by Bodhi if she is involved in a sufficiently advanced romance with the protagonist, so she should be safe with Player2. (If I am mistaken in this, I'm sure Meira will come along and correct me when she gets home.) Quote Link to comment
Meira
Yes, with player 2 Amber will not get abducted. Originally I toyed with an idea of player2 getting abducted if he was romancing Amber. That would have made sense since the romance assumes that player2 is the faithful sidekick of the protagonist. However I think it would have been too complicated to script. (Because plaer2 is a PC and does not a have a death variable.) Quote Link to comment
berelinde
I always wondered about why the love interest would be abducted instead of Player 2, who has stood by the PC through thick and thin, presumably forever. Pity there is no way to assign a DV to PLayer 2. Quote Link to comment
Guest Volren
Just something I'd like to clarify: does Player 2 also have to meet the requirements of 12 Int and Cha for Amber to start a romance with him? I reread the readme but it wasn't explicitly stated. Or maybe I'm just thick >.> Also, will she start a romance with either player 1 or player 2 if their stats at creation don't meet the requirements but they're later changed to fit them by something like Shadowkeeper? My PC in the game I started with Amber is female, and so far Amber hasn't had a single thing to say to her trusty sidekick- I initially started him with a Cha of 8 though, belatedly changed when I remembered the requirements Also, just out of curiosity, will she speak to Player 2 at all if it's not someone she will romance? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
BigRob
I seem to recal that the stats are needed at the start of the game, but Meira or Darios could confirm. Quote Link to comment

I reread the readme but it wasn't explicitly stated. Or maybe I'm just thick >.> Yes, the player 2 has the same stat and gender requirements as the Protagonist. I'll see if the readme could be improved so that it more clear on this matter. My PC in the game I started with Amber is female, and so far Amber hasn't had a single thing to say to her trusty sidekick- I initially started him with a Cha of 8 though, belatedly changed when I remembered the requirements No, your character must have the required stats when you load a game with Amber mod installed. You can start a new game with lower stats, change them and then install Amber (for the first time). However, note that unistalling and installing Amber again does not help, becase the variables are stored in the savegame. Also, just out of curiosity, will she speak to Player 2 at all if it's not someone she will romance? No, unfortunately there is no friendship path for the player 2. Quote Link to comment
Meira
No trouble at all And you're welcome. I heard such wonderfulthings about the mod I wanted to try it and couldn't make myself play a male PC Thank you for making it so I didnt have to! And, it is a great mod, one of the best. I eagerly await the next version. Will it have TOB content by the way? Yes, the Player 2 will have ToB content just like the Protagonist will. Actually, considering the ToB storyline the Player 2 might have a chance for 'happier' romance than the Protagonist. Quote Link to comment
Kitanna
Awesome! I can't wait to play it Quote Link to comment
