Miloch
What unit of time does a number entered in a Duration field (e.g., for item or spell effects) represent? If this is defined somewhere in the IESDP, I can't find it. Link to comment
Nythrun
1 per second, 6 per round. Casting time and weapon speed use a different metric. Link to comment
Miloch
Eh... sorry for being dim but I'm just a half-orc. So a value of 1 in the Duration field means it lasts a second? I thought a round was 60 seconds (1 minute)? Link to comment
pro5
1 round = 6 seconds 10 rounds = 1 turn = 60 seconds Link to comment

Miloch
Well it says something different in the 2e PHB: "A round is approximately one minute long. Ten combat rounds equal a turn (10 minutes)." But what I was asking was what the value in the Duration field represents. Is it measured in seconds, rounds, fractions of seconds, or what? devSin
Seconds. A value of 6 lasts six seconds (one round). A value of 18 lasts 18 seconds (three rounds). A value of 1 lasts one single real-world second. Link to comment
Miloch
Thanks. That's what I figured, though some durations are kind of wack and out of line with descriptions. Link to comment
Echon
Well it says something different in the 2e PHB: "A round is approximately one minute long. Ten combat rounds equal a turn (10 minutes)." This is correct, but for Baldur's Gate everything has been divided by ten. -Echon Link to comment
Rikka
1 round = 6 seconds I agree, but if you go thru a lot of various IWD2 SPL files, you'll see that they use a value of 7 for 1 round, and multiples of 7, not 6, for durations that are hard set to a specific number of rounds. Strange. Link to comment
Echon
Casting times for spells are a little different. In Baldur's Gate a spell with a casting time of '1 round' has it set to 10. -Echon Link to comment
devSin
He may actually be referring to the duration. Who knows how anything is done in ID2? None of the IE information is guaranteed to actually be correct for that IE-on-crack title. Link to comment
