Ascension

Yeah I had all the Ascension components installed. I was suprised by the lack of Tamah and because Abazigal was thrown down with ease unlike any other time I have faced him in the past. Firkragg would have kicked his ass.

Can you post your WEIDU.log?

That's weird about Imoen I've never seen that behavior before, every other time I've played Imoen had gained the power to turn into the Slayer herself upon reaching a certain level of XP and Charname had the ability to turn into the Ravager at some point. On this last play through that didn't happen.

Before I've always played with Imoen in the party and I've never before had the horror of losing her without anyway to stop it when I reached the Throne of Bhaal.

Perhaps the Ascension mod has changed since last time I installed it? Or is it another mod?

No, it's standard Ascension, and it's been like that for years (the mod hasn't changed since 2002ish). Melissan summons Irenicus, who then summons Bodhi; then she (Melissan) turns Imoen into the Slayer. If you wait ten rounds or so, she'll change back.

Hmm Imoen got chunked in seconds every time I reloaded. Any idea where the Ravager powers came from? perhaps Gaider's restored Bhaalpowers when it wasn't part of UB. I think I'll replay the final fight a few more times.

Okay, so the reason Abazigal is fighting badly and that Tamah doesn't turn up is that you have got the SCSII Ascension component installed, but you haven't got the SCSII "Smarter Dragons" component installed. That combination is creating problems I hadn't anticipated.

If you're chunking Immy, just don't attack her.

ah ok, I had to remove Smarter Dragons because I wanted Carsomyr before heading into the Underdark and I just couldn't defeat Firkragg even after doing every other possible quest before leaving for Brynnlaw. The smarter shadow dragon didn't give me too much trouble though and I defeated him many levels earlier.

The shade lord kicked my ass repeatedly until I had to go back to Athkatla and buy a scroll of Secret Word to do him in

I had to remove smarter mages too because I just couldn't win against those two Yuan-Ti mages with Torgal when I went to the Keep directly after Irenicus' Dungeon

Sorry for the OT comment but thanks, Guest, you've just taken a huge weight off my shoulders. There's a saying in spanish: "troubles of many, consolation of dumb". In this case, it is indeed a consolation. I started to think I was the only one finding scs II pretty tough.

Really? I personally think it's great then! Being able to kill Firkragg right away always pissed me off! Thanks DavidW!!

yes, one thing about scs2 is that you have to stop somewhere in the middle of installation and think "do I really need that difficulty?". Being able to choose only the components you need is really a blessing.

V8 will also try to make a sharper distinction between those components that basically just make creatures smarter and those that also make them tougher.

You've said the magic words "v8"! Is anything imminent (or at least, likely to be released soon?)

I love smarter opponents, I don't love tougher opponent (unless the difficulty is openly in contrast with the overall game balance) so I would really like to see this distinction remarked for Version 8. :D

Fairly soon - I'm away for the next ten days but I've left it to be released in my absence, hopefully. If not, then in two weeks, I guess.

Well, component-by-component it was already, so it's only for convenience really.

I agree with Salk, because I've seen some gamers they don't want to use your mod. Why? The gamers compare it with other tactical mods like Tactics. Your slogan: SCS play's fair, is seen in your mod, so the gamers should trust it. Everytime I tell the gamers, that they can trust SCS and they should use it for a more interesting smarter game. And I know, that is what you do. Therefore if someone thinks, there are components there are to tough, please remark this, so the user see it. I think the most fear for the gamers is, that they could have to much problems with some encounters, and can not play further. This fear we must take them away.

So, go on with your great mod to let us play BG smarter. :D

Greetings Leomar

I'm not 100% sure I understand this. Some components of SCS(II) just make foes smarter, others also make them tougher (hopefully without cheating, though). But whether a component is "too tough" is a bit subjective. Personally, I find giving HLAs to SoA wizards is "too tough" but others seem to like it. Lots of people find the SCS kobolds "too tough"; for me they're fine.

I think the most fear for the gamers is, that they could have to much problems with some encounters, and can not play further. This fear we must take them away.

Again, I'm not completely sure how. By general consensus, SCSII makes mages substantially the most challenging opponents - but the improved mages component is basically a "smarter" component, not a "tougher" one.
