did you mean to have the same thac0 penalty for medium and heavy weapons?

No idea what you mean, clearly -2 and -4, always have been!

    1) style - they are light and maneuverable, able to deflect incoming blows, matching the trope of a Renaissance fencer who uses a small main-gauche in the off-hand rather than a second rapier or sabre

This is mainly due to one rapier being a pretty ungainly thing to wear, let alone two (though there are accounts and surviving examples of dual scabbards for a brace of rapiers - another SG vid in case you enjoyed the last). Also a main-gauche is highly specialised parrying dagger, maybe best represented by a specific item with a bonus to melee AC.

I'm being picky, it's a valid point and I am in favour of mechanics that reward realistic choices here, which yours currently does.
As for light and maneuverable (why is this getting spellchecked? manoeuvrable is a gross spelling!) I would suggest that is better represented in vanilla by Speed Factor or by modding in finesse (Dex based THAC0 bonus) or even weapon reach.

Reach is something I'd love to see, but might be beyond the infinity engine. Got a feeling Temnix had a go once, unsure of the results!
Ideally you'd get a free attack with a chance to halt movement whenever an enemy tried to move within your range, but a THAC0/AC penalty when fighting inside it, scaling with the distance inside. I suspect this just ends up really hard to script the AI for and requiring excessive micromanagement. Another option might be to give THAC0/AC penalties to long weapons when they are close to 2+ walls, representing the difficulty in wielding them in confined spaces. I've no idea how hard that would be to code, but it would be a pretty nice boost to small weapons.

    2) for game balance

This I am on board with. Invalidating whole weapon categories is not where we want to be (though kind of already the case in vanilla!).

That’s a fascinating idea, I love it. It’s totally doable - though it wouldn’t be very flexible. I would have to decide which individual weapons are different from their category and code them that way, and that would be that.

Yeah, you're bolting on an item mod atop your proficiencies. Would have to decide the scope (IR? other item mods?).

Seems silly to me - in the physical sense of “how could anyone actually do that” but OTOH this is good feedback, maybe I could make it optional.

Warning, I'm a bit of a HEMA nerd, these comments assume that we are shooting for realism and I recognise that may not be your or other players' priority.

Here's an interesting video on dual wielding, with mention of dual katanas. The book of 5 rings also covers dual katanas, so there's a historical source, bastard swords, not so much.

That said, the sword categories in BG (and D&D in general across all editions) are anachronistic and inaccurate.

With regards to dual wielding we could imagine:

    • Long Sword = Arming Sword or similar "cut and thrust" sword. Definitely dual-wieldable. Specifically not a longsword because...
    • Bastard Sword = A Longsword! Clearly supposed to be a longer sword with an extended grip for 2-handed use, usable in one hand, but not optimal.
    • Katana - A Katana, mainly used 2 handed but able to be used one-handed as above.
    • Two-handed Sword = Zweihander, Odachi or Greatsword, definitely too big to wield one--handed.

    My suggestion would be:

    1. Any weapon usable in 1 hand can be used in either hand.
    2. Two-Weapon Style=
      – ( ) = No off-hand attacks, no bonuses for dual-wielding
      – (+) = 1 point melee AC bonus; off-hand attack with 6-point thac0 penalty compared to main hand
      – (++) = 2 point melee AC bonus; off-hand attack with same thac0 penalty as main hand
    3. Single handed melee weapons categorised as follows with the penalty applied to the weapon's attacks if dual wielded regardless of which hand:
      • Light (no THAC0 penalty) = Dagger, Short Sword
      • Medium (-2 THAC0 penalty) = Long Sword, Axe, Scimitar, War Hammer, Mace, Club,
      • Heavy (-4 THAC0 penalty) = Katana, Bastard Sword, Flail

Dagger and Short Sword are not distinct irl, and both are definitely easier to dual wield then the rest.

Flails are absolutely ridiculous weapons and definitely awkward enough to count as heavy here.

I really like that you shifted the proficiency to an AC bonus, as that's a major advantage in real life. Ideally that should be melee only; shields are good vs missiles, swords are not. Also a higher AC bonus using daggers makes little sense, a longer weapon is often much better defensively as it can get in the way easier and be used to keep an opponent at reach.

(Assuming it isn't a nightmare to mod) you could even give specific magical medium weapons the Light or Heavy property. I could see some clubs being light and some axes being heavy for example.

if an NPC is cloned from an existing NPC that was given a portrait, that cloning process carries the portrait through and you've given the new NPC a portrait too.

I started checking what mods added vs edited items/spells/areas/creatures a while back to help understand compatibility and install order, maybe should add cloning to that list!

Sounds like as a general rule PPE should be after any mods for which it adds portraits (BG1NPC for example), but otherwise as early as possible to accommodate any that copy .cre?

There are loads of other great options in the tweak mods above, but they all take the game further from vanilla than I want for my palate cleansing run!

There is a project to build an EE Fixpack, but it hasn't been released yet, so is not advised unless you are capable of doing your own troubleshooting.

As for content, my recommendations tend to be:

    BG1 Unfinished Business
    Unfinished Business
    BG1NPC
    Almateria's Restoration Project
    Ascension
    Wheels of Prophecy
    Alternatives
    Restored Rhyn Lanthorn
    BG1 Mini Quests And Encounters
    Hidden Encounters
    Ascalon's Questpack

The above either only add small quests or make positive changes to existing content. They are mostly in keeping with the tone of the original games.

Depending on how chatty you like your game, you might also want to add the Interaction Expansion Project and PPG Banters, along with the various banter/friendship/romance expansions for the original and EE companions.

After that you are into mods with entirely new content or major rules changes, many of which are excellent. I can recommend most of @Lava's quest mods, and am looking forward to playing SoD with a bunch of @jastey's storyline/RP mods.

  5. I would recommend:

    • Several of the quest mods have rather powerful loot, make sure you suppress XP and/or sell off any imbalanced items.
    • Ditch the worldmap, EET's worldmap is great and covers your quest mods.
    • PPE should go late otherwise mod added characters may not gain portraits. I think it can be safely installed last as it changes so little.
    • Unfinished Business is recommended early in quests. I have UB, Almateria, then Endless BG1 as my first 3.
    • Item Revisions should be after anything that edits items or their descriptions otherwise you risk a mismatch (also check out IRR). This probably means after all your quest mods. Don't use the item description component in UB.
    • If you are using IWD spells from SCS, install those earlier, I think I have mine just after item revisions.

For other mods maybe see my list (install order still WIP):

  6. Current version is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tt4f-rKqkbk8ds694eJ1YcOjraZ2pISkkobqZ5yRcvI/edit?usp=sharing

I suspect that this is now at least a useful starting point. I hope that this is the case as I am keen to get going with another mega-install in the next few weeks.

    To Do/Done:

    1. Double check links and info for EET Sorted.
    2. Review updated readmes for further compatibility and install order info.
    3. Review https://k4thos.github.io/EET-Compatibility-List/EET-Compatibility-List.html for missing mods (anything released or made EET compatible since late 2020!)
    4. Merge EET Unsorted with EET Sorted.
    5. Test Installation, add errors, report to mod maintainers. (in progress)

I welcome any contribution, suggestions or criticism.

I left it available with 3 editors, have been away from the community for years so it is now badly out of date.

    Hello @4udr4n,

I haven't requested them to be added to the EET compatibility list as there is currently not enough feedback, but The Gate Project mods that have a new version could be included in the list. (Xan-BG2_French-Soundset, AerieBG1, CluaFr, Saradas_Magic_for_BGEE, Askaria-Quest_ChaosKnight-kit, DGItems, IRStore)

The others should also do the job (for the master branchs), but need further verification before being recommended.

Thanks, I'll be sure to provide bug reports and feedback on those that I use.

Yes, ran well into BG2 with the old list with only avoidable issues (some mod-added content bugged/missing, some additional quests incompletable, core game fine).

I am now back and working on a new list, currently updating the sheet and reading through the many updates in the past 3 years!

Like an icebox.  It reminds me of how in Star Trek Voyager, one of the alien crew members, Kes, had a body temperature of 14-16.9 °C (57.2°F to 62.4°F).  Apparently she was sweating all the time (or whatever was her species' equivalent), since that is lower than room temperature in most places.  Or it just meant that the writer just wanted to throw an alien sounding line without thinking about any of the consequences.

She'd be cooking, think of the last time you were in 40°C heat with no wind.

After initializing, you should have an item ability to learn spells.

Learning spells at character creation is something forced on you by the game; we cannot override that but we eliminate those spells once you begin, and then provide the item ability to choose spells like a sorcerer, not a mage (since you are, after all, a sorcerer). As you say, you could pick four spells but sorcerers aren’t supposed to know four spells.

No item ability appears at any point.

  13. @subtledoctor recreatign the character, occasionally I don't get a prompt to memorise spells at creation, but usually I do. No spells are visible in my spellbook. Also, sometimes I don't even have the innate! Whenever I do get the innate, it does nothing. finally, I cannot write scrolls to spellbook before or after using the innate.

Current weidu log in an earlier post if you need it.

I was able to reproduce \o/ I have no idea how it can happen but at least now I can debug it.

    Super, good luck.

@subtledoctor, my fighter/sorcerer has no spells, I click the innate "initialize sorcerer spellcasting" and it casts, but nothing happens and I do not recieve any spells. I was able to select 4 at character creation.

My encounters are brutal?  Well, things are in the eye of the beholder I guess, but I never thought that what I added is particularly difficult.  Well, except the PnP greater basilisks maybe, and that is entirely on purpose, those things are practically mini-dragons and should be difficult. ^^

I think it's the combination of mods I have, basically anything where additional creatures or abilities are added gets compounded by SCS and other tweaks! Mages, Battle Horrors, Greater Basilisks, Wraith Spiders are all problematic. This is further enhanced by my disabling Lock/Trap/Scroll XP and halving murder XP, leavign me pootentially underlevelled for some encounters.

It wasn't a complaint, I want the game to be hard.

  16. Just now, subtledoctor said:

I like that idea... but this mod only affects divine-caster classes (cleric, druid, paladin, ranger).  It would be weird if these classes could equip any weapon but only  be proficient in some; whereas, all the thieves and mages in the game can only equip weapons that they can be proficient in.  That would just be kind of jarring.  And it's outside the scope of  this mod to modify thieves' and mages' weapon usability... :undecided:

    Stick it in SoB?

  17. Just reinstalled as I had issues to solve (Baeloth missing, Dorn broken, porbably because I'd tried to both passify and relocate them using diff mods), and now have an odd issue.

@lefreut, when I use Faydark's Autoroller, it crashes if my character is an Elf or Gnome, but otherwise works perfectly. I've tried a variety of classes and kits, they make no difference.

In better news, simple centred dialogue works well.

Hidden gameplay options still shows in the BG2 UI though (I have LeUI SoD installed).

Also, I can't find any crash files, does EET store them somewhere new?
