-. Dig through the mod's .tp2 file (this may be the least efficient way)

    - Browse through the images (I think it's safe to simply search for bmp's) inside the mod's folders, see if you can find the portraits

    - Install the mod or mod component, launch the game, recruit the party member(s), make a save, then use Near Infinity to open the save and check the creature files and see what portrait files they're using

Done the 2nd, and the 1st is probably better and quicker than the 3rd, it looks as though several mods copy and rename portraits from the mod folder, so their name there may not be what they need to end up as.

if the Project Infinity ever get's it's ass from the ground up better than it has so far, it might be your optimum out come. But is anyone talking about it ? And helping it ? I myself can't... cause I find no intrest on it, not have the needed coding experience that would be actually helpful.

I am using PI, recommending it elsewhere, reporting issues and making feature suggestions. If I had any useful skills I would contribute more directly.

Well, Project Infinity's download links all link to the GitHub page, not the actual download, which is the same link but with /release/ after it, and apparently some mods don't have a release version at all. -that's the reason I was given when I asked ALIEN to correct the links elsewhere.

@AL|EN has repeatedly answered you to explain that PI already does download the latest release wherever a release is available, but that not all mods use releases. Roxanne, @Artemius I, InfinityMods, OlvynChuru, @Ulb, and @Angel all have mods that only have masters on GitHub right now. Presumably, as PI cannot guarantee that a modder will continue to use releases, it makes sense to link to the project page?

  3. I think the ideal would be a single class overhaul mod that made all of the underpinning usability, class and sphere changes (FnP? Maybe a merge of that, MnG + SoB?) and had a framework to allow other modders to create classes. If the classes or sphere systems could then be either components of the main mod (maintenance issues), or seperate mods that required it (probably easier), that would let a player pick which kits should be available, and ensure compatibility.

(Historical footnote, IRC Raduziel objected to this combination, and is one of the reasons he broke off and made Deities of Faerun kits incompatible with FnP, writing his own item usability code and eventually adding his own sphere system.)

I was going to ask what prevents DoF, FnP and DR from merging! My assumption was that it would be a mix of creative differences and respect for the work of inactive modders.

As someone primarily interested in actually playing the game (heresy I know), I want the maximum possible compatibility and consolidation of mods, but recognise that it often won't happen for various reasons.

  5. FYI @Caedwyr there are 2 mods that I know of that must be installed pre-EET on BG2EE. These are sod2bg2_iu and S9Soundsets. These seem stable when installed in this way by both me and @Cahir, though neither of us would claim to have fully tested them, and they do not work if installed at any other point.

Generally, installing anything that isn't on the EET compatibility list with EET is a bad plan. Even just installing mods from the list, install order is important and some mods will be incompatible with one-another.

I am at install number 12 for EET in the last 10 days trying to get a stable install with a large mod list. My installs include SCS and often take over 8 hours to complete. Don't waste time that you don't have to by adding things that aren't expected to work.

If you produce a lsit of the mods (or ideally the specific components) that you are interested in trying, there are plenty here who will help you figure out an install order. I've been amazed by the willingness of this community to help.

In other words, just move IR components 1030, 10, and 17 forward to before FnP

Excellent, no issue with that. I have some other stuff that adds items, but it's way before FnP and mostly before IR.

Technical explanation for this (skip everything that follows if you don't care how the IE engine and modding works!):

I am very interested, and hugely appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge.

Hmm I wonder how this would apply to my setup. I suppose I have more mods that install items. Notably RR and SoD to BG2EE Item Upgrade. Also couple of NPC and Quest mods that add items

I have plenty more, they are just way earlier in my sequence and didn't look like they would affect proficiency or types.

Because he's supposed to only have one arm, and the sword is in his other. The shield had two entries, one in the shield slot and one in te quick slot item.

    Makes sense.

Please do add pickpocketable stuff (especially to non-hostile NPCs that the player might not usually kill) in future mods, the stranger the better!

Wow, Ygnatius Bombastius has good loot.

  8. 2 minutes ago, jastey said:

But that's exactly the reason why I'll leave the shield in, although I moved it into his inventory for the next version (should still be stealable.)

IMHO, mods should include more stuff for pickpockets. Msot of the vanilla stuff is well known by now, but it could take years for a mod-added item to be found due to the lower player base. Also pickpocket in BGEE is not super helpful (hence my giving it a go).

So far with 90 in pickpocket I have 2x Gorion's Belt, a truck load of potions, that shield, couple of scrolls and all manner of gems. Haven't got to the firnedly arm yet!

Why move it to his inventory?

  9. 18 minutes ago, jastey said:

I wasn't even aware he has one, lol. It's just a normal Medium shield +1 though, if it crashes your game then you have some problems in your install, I'm afraid.

I was thrilled to fidn that the modder has included something stealable (and valuable!).

I found it in NI and drew the same conclusion, sorry for the false alarm.

See my edited post above.  It's [FnP Item Usability --> IR Weapon Changes].  Need to change their order, or omit one.

I think I can move IR. My order currently goes:

    • item_rev:0:Item Revisions by Demivrgvs
    • (some other stuff that is recommended after IR)
    • Faiths_and_Powers:21:FnP: the Faiths & Powers original sphere system
    • Faiths_and_Powers:31:Install Cleric kits
    • Faiths_and_Powers:33:Install Druid kits
    • Faiths_and_Powers:35:Install Paladin kits
    • Faiths_and_Powers:37:Install Ranger kits
    • Faiths_and_Powers:75:Alter weapon usability and proficiency
    • Faiths_and_Powers:80:Apply sphere system
    • Faiths_and_Powers:85:Apply FnP kits to NPCs
    • might_and_guile:210:Bard Overhaul: Multiclass Bards
    • might_and_guile:220:Revised Multiclassing and Multiclass Kits
    • might_and_guile:230:Revised Stalker
    • might_and_guile:240:Improved Rangers
    • might_and_guile:245:Revised Movement Bonuses (Quickstride)
    • might_and_guile:265:Revised Monk Fists
    • Faiths_and_Powers_Multiclass:91:Multiclass Druids
    • Faiths_and_Powers_Multiclass:92:Multiclass Shamans
    • Faiths_and_Powers_Multiclass:95:Multiclass Cleric kits (install AFTER all other kit mods!!)
    • Faiths_and_Powers_Multiclass:99:Apply FnP multiclass kits to NPCs
    • item_rev:1030:Store Revisions
    • item_rev:10:Revised Shield Bonuses
    • item_rev:17:Weapon Changes
    • item_rev:1080:Enchantment Doesn't Affect Speed Factor of Weapons
    • item_rev:19:More Weapons Usable for Backstabbing
    • item_rev:1200:Revised Critical Hit Aversion
    • item_rev:12:Items of Protection Can Be Worn with Magical Armor
    • item_rev:1060:Kensai Can Wear Bracers

So which components from this list (if any) do you think need to go before the rest of IR?

      • Stone Fist

Yeah, those are some of Grammarsalad's new spells, but we need to source icons for them.  I've been meaning to add some recolored versions of existing icons, but haven't had the time lately.

    Good to know, ta.

  12. Some more issues:

    1. All Shields crash the game! I managed to equip Sir Trun's shield to Montaron, but after that, and shield I click on causes a crash.
    2. Jaheira knows several level 3 spells with no icon:
      • Cloak of Darkness
      • Murderous Command
      • Stone Fist
  13. I pickpocketed Sir Trun's Medium Shield +1, and later equipped it to Montaron, now the game crashes if I try to left or right click it.

I could view the description before it was equipped, and it alters AC and THAC0 correctly.

EDIT: OK, actually all shields now crash the game if I try to click them in the inventory screen! This was not previously the case, I'll do some testing and report back, may have nothing to do with BGQE.

it is nothing short of medieval witch hunt. Well, worse, actually.

Likening this to a witch hunt is insane. People were killed in witch hunts, this is just a few pseudonymous internet folk irritated by the actions of another.

Roxanne clearly has the ability to make good mods, and contribute positively to the work of others, but the fragmentation caused by multiple versions of the same mod existing is extremely unhelpful to players and modders alike.

While it seems many here feel that she should take down her versions, there's very little anyone can do about it. There is minimal legal recourse available and I doubt anyone has the capital or inclination to try to leverage it.

The best course of action seems to me to be to work to demonstrate that a colloborative approach in which the stated wishes of modder regarding the use and distribution of their work are respected, yields a better experience for modders and players than the alternative. That probably means making sure that BEW is not the path of least resistance for players to get EET working, and putting more effort into inter-mod compatibility.

The way we successfully fight disinformation is not to try to silence it, it is to provide a more compelling (and correct) counter-narrative.

  15. @subtledoctor I've no idea what a Weaverager of Mystra is, but how are these:

    • Champion of The Red Knight (Knight of the Red Falcon) - The Red Knight, or the Lady of Strategy, is the deity of strategy and tactics. Sponsored into godhood by Tempus, Her dogma dictates the use of careful tactics in battle to achieve the most favourable victories.
During the Time of Troubles, Lady Kaitlin Tindall Bloodhawk became the avatar of the Red Knight and defended Tethyr from a horde of monsters. Bloodhawk is now head of the Order of the Red Falcon, a martial order that trains officers and others in tactics and military history.
    • Zealot of Eilistraee (Darksong Knight) - Eilistraee is the Drow goddess of beauty, song, dance, freedom, moonlight, swordwork, and hunting. Notably she is patroness and protector of those few dark elves who long to return to the surface and live at peace with other races.
Darksong Knights are dedicated to spreading the ethos of Eilistraee, advancing her causes, and especially to slaying the yochlol, the demons who served as the handmaidens of Lolth. Almost universally female, they utilise a wild and complex dancing fighting style.
    • Champion of Moradin (Hammer of Moradin) - Moradin is the chief deity or the dwarven pantheon; a harsh but fair judge, he is strength and force of will embodied.
The Hammers of Moradin are a military order dedicated to the defense dwarven holdings and the carving out of new dwarven territories.
    • Hoodwinker of Baravar Cloakshadow - Baravar Cloakshadow, the Sly One, is the gnomish deity of deception and illusions.
Clerics of Baravar are known as Hoodwinkers and tend to be the sneakiest of gnomes, who serve their communities by instructing them in disguise and camoflage.

Sure!  It would be great for us, and if you want to add the text anyway... everybody wins!

If I have some spare minutes, I can also include the full kit names in the update I'm working on.

    Deal.

Is there any good guide as to where to find mods these days?

    @jastey's list is great.

@Cahir and I are both working on multi-mod EET installs right now. We have threads discussing them, mostly about compatibility stuff.

I have a general install order guide here (very much a WIP) which has download links and descriptions.

    I will look at this.

Thanks. Everything works well, it just seemed odd.

I also have had one instance of the text failing to display for the hidden options menu, I got random gibberish instead. I restarted and it had corrected, hasn't recurred. Hopefully a non-issue but I'm mentioning it just in case.
