Offensive spin increasing thac0 by (127 - 1) ?

Bar

Recommended Posts

In my install, if Haer' Dalis goes into offensive spin, his thac0 goes from 9 to 135.

That is, increases by 126. Which looks suspiciously like +127 - 1.

Which makes me think fucking signed 8 bit integers are involved.

Any ideas?

It's probably the install order. Baldurdash shouldn't go after fixpack.

Well, it might take you a long time to reinstall all that (especially SCSII), but since "offensive spin" only has one level header this bug can be fixed very quickly by downloading DLTCEP (uncheck "read only"), open the spell file SPCL521, find the "THAC0 modifier" opcode (it's 54), set the statistic modifier to 2 and save it to your override folder.

If there isn't a thac0 modifier opcode and instead something like "Use EFF file" #177 (...I think this used to be the case...) change it to opcode 54 and make sure statistic modifer is set to 2 and type to zero.

Thanks for the info!

Also... If Baldurdash isn't supposed to go after BG2 fixpack, why does BWP install it in that order?

I used the BWP pdf to sort out priorities. Installed only the stuff BWP installs.

Well, it might take you a long time to reinstall all that

Tell me. I spent more time installing BGT and later BG2 than I've spent time playing most games. Like 12 hours on last count. Still couldn't get music to work in either.

Hasn't anyone uploaded a working, BG2 install without any of the silly content-expanding mods, just with restored content, rebalances and fixes? Uploaded that without the core data files, so it's only of use to people who have the game?

What kind of sound speaker system do you have ? I ask cause people have had music problems and no sound problems for ages with the BG games as the old system only is coded correctly with stereo sound system in mind. The 4 output might work, but the 5.1 will definitely not work.

Well, there is the BG2EE that's coming... but no, it won't have all the mod restorations either.

Yeah, and I have spend about 600 hours playing the Mass Effect Multiplayer... and there are thousand that have spend more.

I hear menu, tavern music and so on. And the über-annoying battle-music. Outdoor music sometimes, after reloads? Just gave up on that.

I guess I'll try making a workable, restored distribution without any of the silly mods, with re-balanced spells / items and so on.

Look up on all the mods, make up a list, then just to be sure ask about the order. Install, playtest.

Then subtract whatever files from original stayed the same, thus making what should be non-infringing package that can just be copied over an GOG install.

Modders generally don't like these sorts of packages because they become outdated as new mod versions are released and users end up with stuff they don't necessarily want. This results in users reporting bugs that have long been fixed and users complaining about mods that behave exactly as described.

+1. It's a violation of SCS's terms of use, for instance. (Not that I'm going to sue anyone, obviously, but it will make me very unhappy.)

Exactly. There're multiple cases of this happening in the Russian net, when some people build up a supposedly working installation and then upload it on torrent sites. You can't possibly imagine how often you'd see a hapless player coming in and saying - I'm playing BWP vX, need help with Y. - Yes, sure, and what exactly are you playing? BWP is not a mod, what have you installed? WeiDU.log? - I don't know nothing, I've DLed it from torrent. - FUUUU

Did you remember to also download the Big World Fixpack, put it in your install folder, and run the included batchfile to update everything mentioned in the pdf as needing updating before you started installing the mods? According to the pdf, Baldurdash is one of those that needs this update prior to being installed, so that it'll play nice with the BG2 Fixpack.

Suppose I

1) put in mostly mods finished a long time ago

2) asked on mods like SCS I,II and so on

3) put in numerous hints not to ask for support if the mods are outdated?

As long as it's strictly for personal use, it's fine to backup as many pre-installed mods as you'd like. But please, don't, don't ever upload it anywhere public. There's a very good reason why mod authors ask to not publish or re-distribute their mods without explicit permission, and it has nothing to do with wounded pride. You can write as many hints about the support as you can, but it's not gonna stop people from downloading it, installing something on top of it, running into bugs, and coming to forums with "I've downloaded a random pre-installed game with mods, need help" threads. I've seen it happen before, and it wasn't a pretty sight.

Anyway, so this sort of file-order should work okay?

Also, can someone recommend some sane xp tweak?

I've either seen ones which nerf trap/lock/spell xp ridiculously low. Why can't it scale with levels?

Also, I ran through BG1 + totSC and ended up with 320K xp - not sure if it'd make BG2 too easy, but maybe the game install needed some xp tweak

Well, the original BG1 game had the traps and locks giving you zero XP when you opened/unlock them, and so the TC mods make it a lot more rewarding... and the other reason is that the XP bonus tables are done by idiots... the fact that the characters level that does the unlocking or removal of the trap makes the bonus higher is a bad sign of idiozity. After all the XP is a representation of the experience of the character, and a higher level character being rewarded from the same act as a lower one but getting more XP is uncomprehendingly bad. I would instruct you to just write the table yourself. You can do that by either opening the file by hand from the override folder(the file name is in the link) with Notepad and then just replacing the numbers and trying to not loose the form by adding spaces or removing then where it's needed, or just by copying the original from the link above and adjusting it and saving the file as "xpbonus.2da" to the override folder(this works even if you Biff the files).
