Sword Coast Stratagems v28 bugfix thread

There you have list of innocent mages, maybe it will help you with something.

Bentley Mirrorshade, Halbazzar Drin, Phlydia, Firebead Elvenhair, The Great Gazib, Landrin, Unshey (I'm not sure about her class).

This may be incomplete list, since i took them from BG wikia. If i will find something i will let you know. I know, the easiest solution is to just not touch them, but i'm perfectionist and just don't like any bugs in mods or core game, so i cross my fingers, hoping you will find some solution for this :)

PS: What with this list of fixes, can i find it somewhere?

I did some testing, and found possible solution. But I'm not sure if it really works like it should be.

Now reputation decreases, but do the mages attack and behave like they are supposed to?

Sorry, i don't have BG:EE installed and I can't even install it now. Can someone else check it? You need to have "Smart mages" component installed. Then kill Phlydia in Candlekeep (or Landrin in Friendly Arm Inn) and check if your reputation lower upon kill.

I have few question for more experienced players (kreso, Demi, zenblack, Salk, anybody...)

Looking at mechanics of how "Smarter mages" deals with mages that have INNOCENT as their class,

it is like this (IMHO):

It changes their class to MAGE, gives them random mage kit (PHLYDI gets ENCHANTER, PHLYDI2 gets CONJURER?!?) and spell & scripts associated to that kit.

Than it gives them script that changes class IF HitBy INNOCENT>MAGE (I think this is wrong, as they are already mages).

Reputation drops only if they are INNOCENT, so I think it is opposite.

Now the questions:

Wouldn't it be better to change their class back from MAGE to INNOCENT, after "Smarter Mages" gives them all spells & scripts? (Maybe DavidW intended this, but forgot. Then class-change script would be OK, but there is no reputation loss if you kill them)

What I want to know, does it affect their behavior if they are class INNOCENT and have MAGE scripts&spells?

What is purpose, then, of class-change script on hit?

You can test it on PHLYDI.CRE or FIREB1.CRE (Phlydia or Firebead Elvenhair in Candlekeep) (if you have current Smarter Mages installed, try fighting them and then try with this change: in NI remove dw#innmg.bcs and change class to INNOCENT)

I don't see anything different in fight, but I'm noob at fighting :-D

Thanks!

First, I want to thank you all for your work. I've been using some of your fixes on my most recent play through and it has smoothed a few wrinkles in SCS.

Second, I'd like to warn others that the "Improved Abazigal's Lair" still crashes on me every time I enter AR6001 or AR6008. I posted about it on the BG2EE forums back in February. Maybe I should have posted it here too. I'm on a Mac with BG2EE 1.2.

I confirmed the crash with two different mod setups. The first was my normal playthrough, which had many mods installed and used version 1.2 of your fixes. I crashed every time I entered Abazigal's Lair. Here's my WeiDU.log:

For my second test, I did a fresh install of BG2EE and a minimal SCS install with the latest version of your fixes (1.4). I created a new ToB game with Abdel and BG2EE still crashes every time. Here's the WeiDU.log I used in my second test:

// Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods
// The top of the file is the 'oldest' mod
// ~TP2_File~ #language_number #component_number // [subcomponent Name -> ] Component Name [ : Version]
~STRATAGEMS/SETUP-STRATAGEMS.TP2~ #0 #1000 // Initialise mod (all other components require this): v28
~STRATAGEMS/SETUP-STRATAGEMS.TP2~ #0 #5900 // Initialise AI components (required for all tactical and AI components): v28
~STRATAGEMS/SETUP-STRATAGEMS.TP2~ #0 #6000 // Smarter general AI: v28
~STRATAGEMS/SETUP-STRATAGEMS.TP2~ #0 #8180 // Improved Abazigal's Lair: v28

Since the game works fine without "Improved Abazigal's Lair" I recommend people (or at least BG2EE Mac users) avoid that component until there's a fix for this problem.

I just tested this second weidu setup on my BGT & BG2EE (PC) and both areas don't crash. I don't have MAC, so I can't test it there.

But if there is some problem, main suspects are lizard men that this component puts in both areas instead of frost salamanders & lesser earth elementals.

You can decomment (put // before) lines 78, 79 & 83 in abazigal\abazigal_enclave.tpa, until somebody with MAC detects what is real problem.

I have few question for more experienced players (kreso, Demi, zenblack, Salk, anybody...)

What exactly is the problem with innocent mages - no rep loss when you kill them?

It could probably also affect priests as well - Keldath Ormlyr in Beregost temple should probably lower your rep when killed...

I tried your suggestion, killing Firebead lowers rep by 4, has "smarter mages" behaviour. Is that what you want to happen?

Yup. It's the lizard men. Commenting out 78, 79, & 83 eliminates the crash bug. I was kind of sad to miss the devil ambush, so I restored line 79. I then commented out the first 11 lines of ar6008add.baf, so I still get the devil ambush after getting the breath potion. As further evidence in support of the "it's lizard men" theory, when I attempt to MoveToArea("ar0420") the game crashes. That's the room in the planar sphere with lizard men. I tried doing the Black Pits 2 (BP2), and when I got to the third match (which features lizard men), the game crashes. I was able to complete the BP2 on my first play through, but I don't remember what mods I had installed at the time. I don't think I had SCS installed since it wasn't designed for BP2. Maybe I'll test this with a fresh install later.

Now if some one knows WHY the lizard men make the game crash, that would be nice.
Does line 83, which replaces the earth elementals with lizard men, prevent atweaks' PnP Elementals from swapping in water elementals? Because even if the lizard men didn't crash my game, I'd rather have the greater water elementals. That would probably require a change to atweaks since it's supposed to be installed after SCS.

Yeah, problem is that some mages don't lower you rep when you kill them IF you have installed "Smarter mages" component. It's easy to tell if "smart mages" is working. When you attack Firebead in Candlekeep he instantly puts on himself lots of defensive spells (mirror images, Minor Globe of Invulnerability et.c) and go invisible. Phlydia for other hands put on herself Armor. Firebead is unkillable in this stance, but you should be able to down Phlydia without bigger problems.

Ehm. Not really if you attack him with a 24th level sorcerer :D

I wanted to point that if you start the game with 1lvl character and have installed "Smarter mages" component, then you know it, 'cause it's impossible to kill Firebead (which is doable in unmoded game). That's why in Candlekeep you can test this bug only on Phlydia :)
