Solaufein's Rescue - jastey's Solaufein NPC mod for BGII

With this modification the game character Solaufein, drow fighter from Ust Natha, is extended to a joinable NPC. Before he can join, Solaufein has to be freed from drider chambers. This starting quest can be played independently to whether he should then join the group or not. (This is not Weimer's Solaufein NPC mod.) The mod is compatible with original BG2 (with ToB), BGT, BGII:EE, and EET.

Solaufein can also follow as a '7th party member' in case your group already consists of 6 persons. More details about this please refer to readme.

The second, optional mod component offers the possibility to give the game Solaufein in Ust Natha the mod's portrait. If you want to see this in the game, this component has to be installed after Weimer's Solaufein.

The third, optional component is for BGII and BGT: If the main component of Infinity Animations is installed, this component will install and use the drider animations for the mod.
Without this component, all driders in the mod will be displayed as drow. There is no loss in gameplay, other than it won't look as nice. :-)
For BGII:EE and EET the animations will be included and used automatically.

The forth, optional component enables to install the alternative portrait for Solaufein.

For version1, the rescue quest can be played fully in English. The rest of the mod is still mostly in German. English version is done to 55%.

Weimer's Solaufein NPC mod is not EET compatible and acts strangely in BG2EE lately (mb because of other mods), so, an alternative (not to mention a compatible extension!) was really needed!

Thank you for the interest. I know the not-completed English version is a drawback, but there is only so much I can translate in a month, because translating is tedious and no fun. It's still 900 lines missing...

Oh, Jastey, the mod IS very interesting and on demand. I wish I could help with translation (but then again, why would I need one if I could play it as it is?).

Probably a bug report (can be BWS fault, not mod's) - in attempt to install on EET BWS says "drider animation from NearInfinity is missing" when checking up selected mods for compatibility. The only way around is unchecking (manually, BWS can not do it) that option in mod selecting window.

Can you please tell me what Solaufein's script name is in your mod? I see he uses C#SolauB but see no DV.

 

I found some old interactions between the drow and my priestess but I am not sure which of the Solaufeins is meant, that stuff sleeps since the BGT days since none of the mods was in EET until now.

This may be a BWS issue, probably a misunderstanding of this http://www.shsforums.net/topic/56670-big-world-setup-an-attempt-to-update-the-program/page-253?do=findComment&comment=600710.

Does EE allow that component? If yes, I understand it would not need IA?

 

I will configure the Drider animation like this in BWS

BGT/BG2 >>> can be selected but needs IA

EET/BG2EE >>> can be selected, no restriction

The third component isn't allowed in BGII:EE / EET and would be skipped automatically. For BGT, it needs the core component of IA.

 

For BGII:EE and EET, drider animations are added always.

Took a moment for my thick brain to get it but now it is configured correctly.

 

Mirandel should be fine by having it de-selected. It now does not appear in EE any longer.

Confirmation: indeed, no problem during building up the mod list.

Could not install:

Solaufein's Rescue: Jastey's Solaufein NPC for BGII (Solaufein's Rescue (Jastey's Solaufein)) was not installed due to errors.

 

Looks like Gavin mod problem.

This looks great! I love that you took up the Afaaq model and are turning him into a 7th party member. Party slots are the most expensive resource in a BG game, these days!

 

Will definitely try him out one day! I always liked Solaufein as a character, but I remember the old mod being very much a disappointment when I tried it years ago. It was essentially a completely different person.

 

Have you looked into crossmod? At the very least, Lava's 'Eilistraee's Song' is pretty much asking for it.

I need to check whether the mods changed in the meantime, but compatibility with Eilistraee's Song was implemented some years back. I forgot to mention it in the readme.

That is very true, of course. Finding other followers of Eilistraee is one of his main motivations to follow the PC, so yes, I agree. :)
