Here's a bit of trivia for you: Alexander Graham Bell is granted a patent for an invention he calls the telephone on this day in 1876. However... Antonio Meucci was recognised as the first inventor of the telephone by the United States Congress, in its resolution 269 dated 11 June 2002 ("if Meucci had been able to pay the $10 fee to maintain the caveat after 1874, no patent could have been issued to Bell").
