But a lot of the point of this is to move non-magical class-based combat abilities into the proficiency system, to give players more choices when building up their characters. I could also look into stealing another Detectable Spells stat... see if there is another one that is very rarely used? Most likely underused ones: CLERIC_PHYSICAL_MIRROR, WIZARD_PROTECTION_FROM_MAGIC_ENERGY, CLERIC_DEFENSIVE_HARMONY. I would check those first. But, I'm a bit leery of walking too far down this road... Or use stat 109 and hope it doesn't cause any problems? (Other/older mods may use this to detect weapon enchantment; I think they might set every weapon to set this proficiency to their enchantment bonus. I could just... remove those equipping effects from all items. The question would be, what purpose are those equipping effects serving? Who or what is detecting them, and what happens in response? I had thought SCS was having mages detect this to efficiently cast combat protections - "don't cast Mantle if my attacker has a +4 weapon," etc. - but it turns out SCS does not use stat 109 for that. So my suspicion is that stat 109 is more or less open for use. But I'm not certain of that. I can't say for sure that TDD or DSotSC or SOBH or some other old mod doesn't have some small weapon enchantment detection events... Ideally, as I've mentioned elsewhere, we could create a broad function that converts all Detectable Spells stats and converts them all to spellstates, and make it a drop-in function that any mod can use. Then like ten or twelve new proficiencies would be freed up. But, I don't ave time to write up that sort of thing, and its creation should really involve more people who currently use/helped to create Detectable Spells. So I'll content myself to picking off vulnerable stats at the edges. Quote Link to comment

Compatibility seems to be good? ...Except for one interaction with NPC_EE where, if you have chosen some combat skills from dialogue (a combat posture, a physical fitness feat, etc.), and then you use the NPC_EE class-change Tome, it will remove the feat but if you initiate that same dialogue again later you will not have the chance to take the same feat again. Of course this really should not be happening: it would only happen with NPCs, and you shouldn't be doing that with NPCs. Either choose feats for them, or change their class and then choose feats in the new class. Don't choose a bunch of feats and then immediately erase them - that doesn't make sense! So while I would like to solve this compatibility issue... you really have to go out of your way to make it a problem so I'm not too worried about it. At the moment I've solved the issue by simply preventing players from doing both: if you use the SoB tome to allow NPCs to catch up their proficiencies, then the NPC_EE class-change tome will disappear. If you use the class-change tome, then the SoB proficiencies tome will disappear. I've marked version 6.1 as a pre-release since I've only done a day of testing. If you want to kick the tires, feel free. If you install that and you also use NPC_EE, then you should be sure to use version 5.8 or later of NPC_EE. This is also marked as a pre-release, since the update is solely for compatibility with the Scales of Balance pre-release. I'll update them in tandem, since they have a pretty comprehensive set of interactions. If you use SCS NPC Customization... I would consider NPC_EE instead. NOT because I think my mod is superior to SCS in any fundamental way! But because this combat skills system can add a bunch of abilities and effects to characters that are not readily apparent and do not spring from CLAB tabels and the like. So SCS is likely to miss removing them when changing class. Whereas, NPC_EE is on top of it and should remove everything that needs removing. (Like a third of the work in creating this component actually went toward making NPC_EE work with it.) Quote Link to comment

No dual-wielding for mages, no shields for thieves or rangers, no dual-wielding for clerics. On reflection, I think it was not handled well and I have toned down the restrictions in versions 5.40 and 6.1.1. Now these are the only restrictions: Mages, thieves, monks, and single-class druids cannot learn the shield-fighting style. Monks and single-class thieves cannot learn the two-handed weapon style. I agree and I think monks wielding quarterstaves would be wonderful. But it cannot be done in BG because the engine uses their "2-handed weapon" animations for their kicks. So Bioware stopped monks from using any 2-handed weapons at all. It's one of the many, many reasons I hate the BG monk class. There is a mod that lets them use quarterstaves, but I forget which mod it is and I don't remember how it works. It might remove their kicking animations altogether and just use the normal "boxing" unarmed animation. Quote Link to comment
