November 8, 2006: BG2 Fixpack Version 1 Released

After two years, eleven development releases, and countless hours from the 20+ member team, version 1 of the BG2 Fixpack is now available. The BG2 Fixpack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes for Baldur's Gate II. With the disappearance of Kevin Dorner and the cessation of activity of the Baldurdash fixpack for BG2, several modders form many modding communities began working on a new WeiDU fixpack to address the numerous bugs that have been identified since Baldurdash. This collaborative effort, including the work of modders from several different modding communities, has resulted in a fixpack that currently includes all of the fixes addressed by Baldurdash (including the Game Text Update) and several hundred new bugfixes. The project is ongoing, and we're working through a substantial list of bugs culled from various sites, the old Baldurdash forums, and our own research.

This release addresses the errors from the final beta release, expands existing fixes, and includes a new optional-but-cool component for wizard slayers. Several new fixes have been added; however as the project is no longer beta, new fixes will be introduced in a new component entitled BETA Core Fixes. While the fixes included in this component have undergone testing, they have not seen the extensive 'in the wild' testing of the existing Core Fixes and hence they've been designated beta status. As they receive this testing, they will move to the Core Fixes in future releases. The Fixpack is available from the downloads page or you can browse the readme. You can learn more about the mod (including complete documentation of the bugs fixed) from the project page. Feedback is strongly encouraged; please join us on the Fixpack forums.

The mod features not only romance and friendship tracks for the protagonist, but also a romance track for a second PC in a multiplayer game (Player 2). This feature is also exploitable in a single player game if you want enjoy two concurrent romances without cheating. In addition, Amber is lavishly voiced and has her own original musical theme. Amber is available for download, or you can learn more about the mod from the project page and readme. Discuss Amber in her forum.

October 22, 2006: New Version of BG1 NPC Available

A new release of BG1 NPC, v12 Beta 3, is now available. The beta tag reflects that, while the Tutu side of the mod is considered stable, there remains some bugs to be worked out on the BGT side. This mod expands on the depth of character and levels of interaction with the NPCs from the BG game. When BG2 was released, one of the major improvements in many peoples' eyes was the increased level of interaction one could have with the party members. This mod was developed to allow BG players a similar experience. NPCs in your party now have banters with the PC, with each other, and small side-quests of their own. Version 12 is a major reworking of the project, including a host of bug fixes, an expansion of content, a combined Tutu-BGT installer, and available files for future translations. Grab it off the downloads page, view the readme from the mod, check out the BG1 NPC project page, or visit the forum.

October 8, 2006: BG2 Tweak Pack Version 3 Released

G3 Tweaks, Tutu Tweaks, and Wes Weimer's Ease of Use mod have been combined into BG2 Tweaks--a single mod designed to work on Tutu, Baldur's Gate Trilogy, or regular Baldur's Gate II games (with or without the expansion Throne of Bhaal). Version 3 features a slew of bug fixes as well as the restoration of several components from the deprecated Ease of Use and G3 Tweaks. The BG2 Tweak Pack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes, cosmetic changes, and tweaks. Some of these were fan requests, others are needed fixes, and others simply make dealing with the more irritating aspects of the game engine easier. Each component can be installed separately so the player can pick and choose only which ones they wish to install. Grab BG2 Tweaks from the downloads page or learn more about the mod on the project page or in the readme. You can provide feedback and discuss the mod in the Tweak Pack forums.

Version 5 of the Divine Remix has been released. The Divine Remix is a large mod, focused on the divine spellcasting classes (clerics, druids, rangers, and paladins), designed to enhance roleplaying by expanding the options available to players. The Divine Remix aims to rebalance and change several aspects of divine-magic-using classes in Baldur's Gate (via BG1Tutu) and Baldur's Gate II. Version 5 is primarily composed of bug fixes, though the Polish language files have been updated as well. Most notably, eSeries can now use the new Divine Remix spells without crashing (the error was in Divine Remix's spell files). Download the new version, join us in the forums, read full notes in the readme, or learn more on the project page.

October 3, 2006: The Gibberlings Three Debugging Suite for Baldur's Gate II Unveiled

In the course of BG2 Fixpack development, several errors kept cropping up repeatedly--so much so that it became time-efficient to write some automated checking tools. With some polish, these tools are now ready to be released independently so that modders can use them to diagnose issues in their own mods. This suite is not designed for players. Note that the suite doesn't actually alter any game files and leaves no entry in the WeiDU log, so that it can be used at any point in the install order, as many times as needed. If there is interest for the Suite on other platforms (BG, IWD, etc.) it can be developed. You can learn more about the Suite and its capabilities on the project page or in the readme. Discussion and feedback can be directed to the forums and the mod is available from the downloads page.

October 1, 2006: eSeries v1.8 Released

A new version, v1.8, of the eSeries player AI scripts for BG2 have been released. Currently there are seven scripts included in the series: eArcher, eFighter, eMage, eMulti, ePriest, ePureF, and eThief. As you should be able to tell from the names of the scripts, they are tailored to specific character classes. There is some overlap in abilities, but generally speaking, the scripts are most potent when they are assigned to a character of the corresponding class. Version 1.8 expands the coverage of the scripts to include spells from Divine Remix, includes some suggested optimizations, and miscellaneous bugs were also addressed. German and Spanish translations have been added as well. You can learn more about the eSeries on its project page or in the readme, visit the Cirerrek's AI Scripts forum, or get the updated package from the downloads page.

You can learn more about Oversight on its project page, visit the Oversight forum, check out the complete readme, or head straight to the downloads page.

September 18, 2006: The Gibberlings Three Celebrates Its Third Anniversary

The Gibberlings Three turns three today! We'd like to thank our friends and visitors for making G3 a great place for modding and building a true community. To celebrate, G3 is pleased to unveil a new site design as well as several new projects, completed and available for download:

  • Sword and Fist: This mod for Baldur's Gate II or Tutu expands the possibilities available to dedicated warriors in the game: characters of the Fighter and Monk classes. A suite of new kits are available for Fighters to choose from, and Monks have been tweaked to bring them more into line with their 3rd-edition pen-and-paper rule set.
  • Plasmocat's Portrait Packs: Plasmocat has put together two new collections of portraits, packaged and available for your convenience. The "BG NPC Portraits in BG2 Style" alters the portraits of BG NPCs to be more like the portraits in BG2. The "Picks of the Litter" collection of portraits for the player (not NPCs) is a collection of Plasmocat's favorites, many of which were commissioned for various mods and others which are just portraits she wanted to make from the photos of models she thought were interesting.

In addition to the new projects, G3 has released updates to many other mods:

  • Amber: Version 2.1 of Amber addresses issues found since the 2.0 release
  • Auren Aseph: Version 4 of Auren features a lot of new content as well as some minor bugfixes
  • BG1 NPC Project: The long-awaited version 12 beta 2 features major expansions in content. The mod is being dubbed a beta as it has not been completely tested under BGT.
  • BG2 Fixpack: Beta 3 features a slew of new bugfixes as well as addressing reported errors with previous fixes
  • BG2 Tweaks: Version 2 features two new components as well as some bugfixes
  • Divine Remix: Version 4 features two new cleric kits as well as a revamped installer that allows third-party mods to plug into the sphere system
  • G3 Anniversary: Our project from the first anniversary, version 4 features compatibility updates, bug fixes, and a new reward
  • Multi-Install Tool: Version 5 has been a complete rewrite and now supports OS X users
  • NPC Tweak: Version 3.0 fixes a number of miscellaneous bugs
  • Oversight: Version 8 alters Comet per player requests and includes some minor bugfixes
  • P&P Celestials: Version 4 features a new Polish translation as well as updated code to enhance compatibility with other mods
  • SP Collection: Version 7 features new spell icons for the new kit abilities as well as several code enhancements to make it work better with other mods

On behalf of G3, we would like to thank the players and visitors for continuing to make this a wonderful community and source of excellent mods.

Please head over to the BG1 NPC forum to report any issues, ask questions, or learn more about v12 and the beta.

Version 2.02 of Sword Coast Stratagems has been released. The new version is primarily a bugfix release, eliminating issues discovered since the last version, though a new OS X version has been made available. August 20, 2006: Sword Coast Stratagems Moves to G3

G3 is pleased to welcome the addition of Sword Coast Stratagems, a mod by DavidW for Tutu. SCS is primarily a sort of Tutu version of Tactics. It features substantially upgraded general AI (almost all monsters call for help intelligently, choose sensible targets, and use magic items) as well as much better AI for a lot of specific types of creatures (wizards, priests, sirines, basilisks...). It enhances several types of monsters (e.g. spiders and doppelgangers) to be more challenging (hopefully without being ridiculous) and it upgrades the opponents in about 20 of the individual battles, including the end-of-chapter battles in chapters 2-7 and the end-of-quest battles in Tales of the Sword Coast. Basically the idea is to make Tutu rather more tactically challenging, rather than just making it harder by brute-force methods like tripling all the damage rolls. SCS is complete and available for download. You can learn more about the mod on the SCS project pages or in the readme. SCS also has a forum to discuss ideas and provide feedback.

This second beta release addresses the compatibility issues discovered from the beta 1 release as well as including a host of new bug fixes for the game. German and Spanish translations are now included thanks to Leonardo Watson and Immortality of Clan DLAN, respectively. The beta label also reflects that while the fix list is well into the hundreds, the pending fix list is also quite substantial.

July 9, 2006: BG2 Fixpack Beta 1 Released

The BG2 Fixpack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes for Baldur's Gate II. With the disappearance of Kevin Dorner and the cessation of activity of the Baldurdash fixpack for BG2, several modders and myself began working on a new WeiDU fixpack to address the numerous bugs that have been identified since Baldurdash. The project is ongoing, and we're working through a substantial list of bugs culled from various sites, the old Baldurdash forums, and our own research.

As a beta release, please note that this Fixpack has already undergone seven previous alpha releases and testing, both with and without other mods. While we do anticipate some minor issues (especially with mod interoperability) we do expect that it will be stable for the most part. July 4, 2006: Amber Released

This mod for Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn adds to the game a new joinable NPC: Amber, a tiefling rogue of a chaotic good alignment. As tieflings often do, she may initially appear withdrawn, suspicious and restless, but whoever manages to gain her trust will find much more beneath. Possessed of a natural curiosity - which has been both a blessing and a curse - she has learned much, but never enough to keep her out of trouble. Being neither a true extraplanar - she doesn't recall ever having visited any place outside the prime material plane - nor a true prime because of her heritage, she often feels caught somewhere between these two worlds. While she could never pass for a normal person on the prime, she also lacks the otherworldly grace of a seasoned planewalker, leaving her with a strong feeling of alienation wherever she is.

Unfortunately, no OS X version is available yet.
