September 18, 2009: G3 Celebrates Its Sixth Anniversary

G3 turns six today! To celebrate, we're releasing five mod updates and the release of an all new NPC mod by our very own Grim Squeaker, Tyris Flare! Stay tuned for even more updates in the very near future. The anniversary releases are detailed below.

First Release of the Tyris NPC Mod

Meet Tyris Flare, a red-haired amazon who can kick ass and hurl fire! Sound familiar? That's because I decided to have a nostalgia trip and recreate a character from ye olde Golden Axe computer games that were released on the Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis in America) and arcade machines in the 90s. You may also have seen her recently in Golden Axe: Beast Master, though my interpretation of the character is from the older games. How does she end up in Baldur's Gate II? You'll have to play to find out! Once in your party, Tyris will banter with all BioWare NPCs and can be romanced by any human/elf/half-elf male PC. Enjoy! You can learn more about the mod on the project page or by perusing the readme. Come discuss the mod on the forums or head straight off to the downloads page to get it.

Like its Tutu predecessor, SCS II is mostly a tactics mod, intended to make the combats in the game more challenging and interesting. Overall, playing SCS II shouldn't exactly feel like a whole new game - it should feel like the old game, but with your foes acting much more intelligently and realistically. Version 10 of SCS II fixes a number of bugs and compatibility problems, adds about twenty new components, and optimises existing components. Highlights of the new version include more varied spell choices for priests and wizards, an improved shapeshifting component, improvements to the starting dungeon, an upgraded fights with Irenicus in Spellhold, and an SCSII version of the Tactics Irenicus-in-hell battle. Grab it direct from the downloads page. You can also visit the extensive project pages, readme, or SCS II forum for more information.

Version 3 of Spell Revisions Available

Spell Revisions aims to fix/tweak/enhance arcane and divine spells in Baldur's Gate II. Version 8 features updated German, Italian, and Spanish translations, an update to WeiDU v211, and bug fixes from the previous versions. The BG2 Tweak Pack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes, cosmetic changes, and tweaks. Each component can be installed separately so the player can pick and choose only which ones they wish to install. IWD-in-BG2 is a conversion of Icewind Dale to the Baldur's Gate II game engine. In the short term, this allows lots of BG2 goodies - spells, kits, dual-wielding, sorcerers, and the like - to be used in Icewind Dale. In the longer term, we hope it'll make modding IWD much easier - especially where joinable NPCs are concerned.

IWD-in-BG2 is now an open beta release, and if you would like to playtest it - or just see what it's about - then check out the forum.

April 10, 2009: A Trio of Mod Updates

Three mods have received attention from international translators, and have jumped forward into 2009.

Sorcerer's Place Collection Reaches v8
This collection of kits and an item pack from Sorcerer's Place has added Giuseppe's Italian translation, and been packaged for Windows, OS X, and Linux. The mods in this collection were originally in an older, harder-to-install format until CamDawg converted them to use a WeiDU installer. Item restrictions are applied dynamically, meaning that the item restrictions for the Arcane Fist and Archer of Sylvanus kits will be implemented across all items in the game, including those added or altered by other mods. Polar Bear, Drizzt1180, and Creslyn wrote the original content. Grab it from the downloads page, browse the readme or project page, or join us on the forum.

v3 of the NPC Kitpack Is Released
Idobek's NPC Kitpack is designed to add four new kits and provide the opportunity to give a kit to eight of the BioWare NPCs. Version 3 has a refresh of WeiDU, packaging for Linux as well as Windows and OS X, and an Italian translation by Giuseppe. You can find it on the downloads page, browse the readme or project page, or join us on the forum.

Unfinished Business for Icewind Dale, Version 2
Like its predecessors for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II, Unfinished Business for Icewind Dale aims to restore content and quests that were omitted from the game as shipped. The additional content in this mod is based on what CamDawg could piece together from various game resources. Version 2 features Isaya's repairs and Graoumf's French translation, as well as Giuseppe's Italian translation. It ships in Windows, OS X, and Linux, and updates to WeiDU v210. It is available on the downloads page, you can browse the readme or project page, or join us on the forum.

March 27, 2009: BG1Tweaks Arrives!

With spring comes a renewal of the venerable Baldur's Gate, using BG1Tweaks v1. In this compilation, grogerson reworks and converts sections of The BG2 Tweak Pack and several other sources to work on Baldur's Gate games. A WeiDU compilation of fixes, cosmetic changes, and tweaks, grogerson comments that "Some of these were fan requests, others are needed fixes, and others simply make dealing with the more irritating aspects of the game engine easier. Each component can be installed separately so the player can pick and choose only which ones they wish to install." With packages for Windows, OS X, and Linux, version 1 ships with WeiDU v210. You can learn more on the project page or readme, or you can participate in the Tweak Packs forum. The mod is available on the downloads page.

March 3, 2009: Full Plate & Packing Steel Reaches v2

With Full Plate & Packing Steel, erik delivers a rework of the armour system of BG2, IWD and BG1Tutu, and a small collection of tweaks, dependent or not. In the standard armour system, characters as agile and sprightly in full plate as in light leather armour. Heavy armour helps not one bit if a goblin happens to hit you in the chest with a bent butterknife. You get hurt just as bad as the random unarmoured commoner. In his rework, light, enchanted armours actually help you dodge and take a bit of the sting out. Heavy, enchanted armours don't help dodging much. But they absorb perhaps half or more of the blow in exchange for slowing you down. Armour spells and potions are modified to match the systematic changes. Stealth, thieving, and casting in heavy armour is possible, but difficult. Heavy armour has quite another feel now. With packages for Windows, OS X, and Linux, version 2 ships with WeiDU v210. Changes by popular demand include: Fatigues you more and hurts your acrobatics, missile aim and backstab speed less! Lots of compatibility updates for common mods. Some bugfixes. You can learn more on the project page or readme, or you can participate in the Full Plate forum. The mod is available on the downloads page.

Version 12 of Sword Coast Stratagems has been released. SCS is primarily a tactical mod for Tutu and Baldur's Gate Trilogy. Set thirty years after ToB, Shadow Hand brings you back to the Sword Coast, where you'll meet new friends (6 new joinable NPCs), new enemies, and play your way through an original storyline with several subquests!
